I've got a Zune 30gb. Had it for about a year. It's great. The new software is much improved too. The wi-fi is about useless and so is the radio but it plays music and videos well. Wish it had better codec support but...no biggie.

With the new software you can have it automatically download audio and video podcasts.

No This is how it works. Theres 2 ways to buy music. either buy songs like itunes for .99/song or buy a subscription from the "zune market place". Subscription is what I perfer, because for the price of buying 1 CD a month, I get unlimited downloading. Problem with subscription is that it is afterall a subscription so its a reoccurring monthly payment. Every 30 days the media usage rights run out and it has to update. If you didnt pay $14.99 for the next month, it won't play the songs as the usage rights havent been renewed. When i bought mine, it came with 2 weeks free of subscription, so if they still do that, she'll have an oppurtunity to find out what she perfers. Subscription is good if she wants to sample new bands without paying individually for the music. And if it runs out, she can keep the albums she wants by buying it online thru the marketplace or renewing the subscription for the next month. I hope that makes sense.

But, it'll also play songs downloaded from Limewire, bitorrent, etc. Or CDs you ripped, just like any other mp3 player.

yeah thanks that clears up a lot. if she would pay for the subscription every month, it would be ok. but she isnt very good with the money she does have, so i doubt it. and her parents wont let her get a p2p network on there computer so limewire and kazaa are out.

I'm probably safe to assume she doesn't care about what can be hacked or what games can be loaded on to it. If shes a teenager just get her a mini/nano. As long as its pink you'll prolly be safe.

Two iPod hard disk drives died in my hands within a year (40Go).

If ever I get another mp3 player, I won't get one with an HDD.

Why be a sheep? Get a toshiba gigabeat or something. an ipod is really just an MP3 player that has to use propritary software.

My boy has been rocking the 40 gig toshiba for years with no problems whatsoever.
