disk read error usually means it can't read or write to the harddrive. i'd take it back to the store and say you don't like it and want a different color. then just see if the new one you exchange for does the same thing.

My brother has had 2 of them replaced (all 4th gens). They replaced it no questions asked. Ive never had a problem with my Sony NetMD MZN10 minidisc player, more than 12 hours internal battery life, over 50 with one external AA, holds 5 hours on one MD... and only $170 on eGay.

sony minidiscs where soo shitty to begin with because the damn interface sucks *** and never works. why dont they simply let it be read as a usb drive or someshit instead of having to go through all that fucken hassle?

It takes me about 2 minutes to put a CD onto a Minidisc... but it does require Nero, Nero Image Drive, and NetMD Simple Burner and did take about 30 minutes to intiially figure it out. I concur with the interface sucking but I would rather have a sucky interface then a unit the quits working every 2 months.... it makes me what the reliability is going to be in 2 years (I dont have much trust in portable hard drives yet).
