What are your guys security settings? Also a theory, is that it's programs I download, like aim, limewire, etc. just visit free pornsite. That in order to not get any spyware is to not do ---- on your computer, but check emails and visit websites that don't have popups.

the main problem with shti like this is you have to download ---- tons of software to fix one simple piece of programming that could have eaisally been deleted by doing a little detective work. usually downloading software to catchspyware or anything antispyware related isnt a good idea because it clutters your system.

dam. WTF. I have owned 2 computers and NEVER had any issues with spyware. I use mcafee on both, and I dont even think they are configured properly. I also run firefox. dont know if that helps, but yeah. WTF

i just found out about this software a week or so ago..

i was using EVERYTHING ELSE to delete this ------- virus and it kept coming back.. i manually deleted it atleast 40 times over the month i had it.. used kill box to auto delete it... to swap it with a dummy file.. used every single ------- antispyware/antivirus out there.. even ------- disabled windows explorer and got me a windows explorer alternative.. and it fixed the problem for a while then it found a way to launch explorer again >:(

bottom line is i found that software and ran it..

it cleared up more than 3 gigs of hd space! and i havent had a single fuckng pop up since then :)

i couldnt reformat because i got way too much ---- to back up :)

im going to be trying linux again soon.. since i only use my pc to browse the interweb and listen to music.

thanks for the replys. I'm using IE right now, I had firefox, but I thought that it contributed to spyware as it occured a little while after installing it. Which is not the case since I still get it. How do you disable IE?

I was thinking about switching to apple?, early when this was pissing me off earlier. I'll def have to look into linux. I used to mess with unix awhile ago, but that's like ms-dos.

I really don't have anything on my computer that I really car about and am tottaly content w/ formatting. Isn't there anything that can backup like 10GB + I guess I could zip it too though....

seems to me like it was a worm rather than a virus.

i use linux allot to kill virii. also, you should download bartpe. it makes a cdbootable compact version of windows with norton and all the goodies on it, but doeasnt access the hard drive. well... it does, but it runs entirely from cd. networking, filesharing, desktop, regedit, and a couple of handy utilities. with this single cd i have fixed numerous virii, worms, and just people being stupid and downloading soo much ---- that windows wont boot cus theres less than 1 meg of free space. its worth the download. just go through the system32 and just start deleting ---- that you know isnt supposed to be there.

IE is all I use, plop in Trend Micros PCcillin along with AVG's freeshit (yet to install the cracked stuff) and no issues in 3 years.

I reformatted this PC once, installed PCcillain and no reformats since, that sayiong alot with winXP. Some users reformat every 4-6 months just to be safe.

so if your using windows xp and getting pop ups, just turn on the pop up blocker.

i have found avg to be very good at finding strange viruses and trojans.
also i found with limewire that it would stay running in the background all the time , unless you make it stop, which not only uses resources but also makes your pc vulnerable.
