internet security / spyware
I've been having all kinds of problems with spyware and ----. The only thing that helps for a little while is reinstalling windows. I dunno, my computer is acting hella fucked up right now. When I press crt, alt, del I can't end programs or processes. Pop ups keep coming on my screen when I'm not even using a browser. I've ran spybot at startup, before anything gets loaded into memory a few times, I have mcafee firewall and antivirus. I have comcast, which I'm really starting to question, esp. how your IP address never changes?
What are your guys security settings? Also a theory, is that it's programs I download, like aim, limewire, etc. just visit free pornsite. That in order to not get any spyware is to not do ---- on your computer, but check emails and visit websites that don't have popups.

When I reinstall windows, it's pretty much the same thing as formating, I've never formated it completely. I need to get a USB to backup my stuff so I could just format every month or so for my security. I'm thinking about a different ISP though.
What the hell is zonealarm? No spyware, What ISP are you using? Do you use messengers or download music, etc. ?

Re: internet security / spyware
I don't have any anti-virus/anti-spyware, I use limewire every once in a while. I never have any problems. I have windows firewall, and am running through a router. I guess it helps that I clean stupid peoples computers of spyware and ---- for a living.

I don't GET spyware. Don't download ---- you don't recognize. Don't click "yes" to everything. Read what they're saying to you. Check www.sysinternals.com, look for "Autoruns", and "Process Explorer". You can guess on what they do. Autoruns shows you programs that start up when you turn on the computer, you can control what they do. (As in, you can tell certain programs to NOT run).

I don't click on stupid ---- or anything like that. When I do download stuff I pay attention to what there saying and don't let them download brower toolbar and whatever. I only download programs like real player, adobe, spybot, etc. It's my dumbass brother that downloads stuid ---- like aim even though I tell not to.
I dunno, What ISP's are you guys using? Also what if anything are you guys using to backup files? those flash drives only go up to 2GB as far as I know which isn't that much.

Re: internet security / spyware
the problem is that your doing something wrong and not knowing it. use a sfae and secure broswer, like firefox. seccond, create two accounts. one for you and one for your bro.if he wants aim, get him gaim. spywre is easy to get rid of. usually they give you hints that allow you to get rid of them like... if it comes up with a cerytain toolbar all the time, go to google and type in "name of the toolbar "+ removal. should come up qith solutions.
see i used to have problems with this ----. then i switched to linux. i mean honnestly guys, if its pissing you off that much, just try it for once. its fucken free. and it does everything i need it to like in windows. plays music, plays videos, chat on aim, burn cd's. limewire, emule, whatever you want. if your an avid gamer though, look elseware. or just use a machine dedicated for gaming.
