----, thats gotta be a shitload of boost to rip one one of those apart. maybe he had it mounted so that too much vibrations got to it and weakened it?
ive seen diesels run 50+ psi on stock ic's

No its doesnt really have to be ALOT of boost, even though it is. They said he dropped a guide, which would cause pressure from the cylinders to enter back into the intake stream. Over pressurizing the system.

As little as 6psi coming through enough of a hole is enough to rip aluminum apart. Mythbusters will show you that with the gun in the plane myth. You won't get sucked out the hole (which was the idea of the myth), but it will still shred the aluminum.

It's just that in a 2 or 2.5" charge pipe system there probably isn't enough volume to do that usually, unless the pressures get super high.

edited for clarity

more like 4" charge piping.

from the owner

Thanks to everyone at the local Home Depot and my crew for putting that thing back together. Start to finish about six hours. (replace motor, fix roof, new lexan front and rear, both door window frames bent or broken and new decals)Should have video of it up later. And yes J.G. to properly weld cage the roof has to come off.

Right, so there's 4x the volume of a 2" system of the same length, more aluminum shredding powa!

But if it was from valvetrain malfunction I can see that happening too.
