If you could build a spaceship

that could go three quarters of the speed of light you would time travel one hour into the future for every hour of your time

Your question reminds me of the movie "Next" I saw on DVD yesterday

How do you go back in time by never breaking the speed of light?

Re: If you could build a spaceship

i thought there was a test awhile back on two identical clocks. one went on a fighter plane and the other one stayed on the ground. after flying (dunno if they broke the speed of light) they saw a difference in time. but not much at all....but anyway, if i could build a spaceship i would go out of space cuz it's what it's made for! duh!!

Haha, we'll never be able to break the speed of light.

they probably went through a time zone.

Well if your going to be trying to travel the speed of light your going to need a good turbo :y

The Japanese will figure out a way. And use Mexican labor to do it. ^-^ :8

The faster you move, the faster the rest of the world ages around you. A person walking will age slower than a person sitting down. Not by much, but by some.

No, they both age at the same rate. They just seem to age at different rates from their relativistic perspectives.

So as often as I can, I should drive 100 mph to stay young? :P

Re: If you could build a spaceship

oh god, physics on hmt.

If you could travel faster than the speed of light, the only "going back in time" you would do, assuming you were on a space ship, would be to see the planets orbit in reverse rotation.

Secondaries 10-01-2007 02:59 AM

Re: If you could build a spaceship

You don't age slower.. Those around you age quicker.

I'm going to throw the biggest turbo I can on my car to kill all you ----------ers.

if you were to travel the speed of light your atoms would scatter across space and time

Re: If you could build a spaceship

if we had a plane or some type of craft that could do the speed of light, time travel is possible.. but we dont and most likely never will at least in our lifetime.
and i think you can only go into the future, not back.. or maybe its the other way around? i had read something like that before.. that kinda stuff interests me. that and anything on coast to coast AM with George Noory 8) pete knows whats up with that.

Maybe i read it wrong, but are you saying you only going one hour ahead for a hour worth of travel
I can sit on my ass and go one hour into the future in one hour.

most people don't read, basically :)

Re: If you could build a spaceship

Time to you would pass normally. However, when you slowed back down to zero, more time will have passed in the rest of the universe. A photon leaving the sun and hitting Earth takes like 8 minutes, but from the perspective of the photon, it seems to have just left as it becomes visible to us.

Re: If you could build a spaceship

His OP said basicly you will go 2 hours for one hour worth of effort inside said spaceship.

Which is completely irrlevant cause everyone knows if they had a spaceship its only purpose would be pulling monsterous amounts of ----- and pulling off sweet ass beer runs.

oh ---- yea. anyone ever listen to that ---- late night on am radio? "Coast to coast AM" with George Noory. Should give a listen, pretty interesting, factual ---- about all kinds of stuff like this. I listen sometimes when i go to bed

Re: If you could build a spaceship

Back to the original post:

Doesn't the theory of relativity state that basically traveling toward an object a the speed of light time would appear to speed up x2. If you move away from an object, time would appear to go backwards at a 1:1 ratio. (one hour in the past for every hour traveled)
So if you are traveling 3/4 light speed away from an object wouldn't time appear to travel backwards at a 3/4 speed and fast forward 3/4 speed as you travel towards it?
So then what happens when you travel laterally? Angular velocity X distance traveled / Time?

Time never goes in reverse. It either speeds up towards infinity, or slows down to zero.

ive time traveled before, forward and backward.

all i had to do was fly from new york to japan and back again

i think you are all stupid and einstein is a jerk. time will always stay the same no matter how fast you're moving and there is nothing we can do to change time in anyway 8)

one stayed put in some nasa HQ, and the other was flown around the world. when the plane got back, it was slower by .009 seconds. they were syncronized atomic clocks too. time is an object that we are passing through

Re: If you could build a spaceship

Cliff notes.
If you travel at a set speed then for every hour of that set speed your time advances one hour. Meaning from 12pm to 1pm you travel for one hour and advance one hour.

So what the ---- was the point of saying that.
Its like saying when someone wears their contacts they can see better.
Or heres a guy that when he runs he goes faster.
Or heres a guy that when he eats alot he has to take a big dump later.
Stating common sense doenst make you a genius or anything. Although the mathematician who said for every action there is a re-action, well he already knew his sign.

Re: If you could build a spaceship

You missed the point completely, fucktard.

When you make a round trip in one hour, it seems from your perspective that one hour has passed. However, a person that waits for you at the start/finish point will think you've been gone like, 1 hour 5 minutes from their perspective. You see the difference now? Time speeds up around a person traveling x velocity, but to him it seems that time is passing normally.

no that doesn't make sense at all.

just because you feel like time has passed more quickly while you were doing something than someone who is sitting staring at a picture of six retards riding a roller coaster doesn't mean that time moved faster.
