i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
i was running an open pipe but after a month of driving 20miles each way to work... it got to be too much. I hated that rumble/drone when cruising on the highway at a slight incline... drove me nuts. But WOT open pipe sounds hella sick!! but now i got a magnaflow 5x8 3" in and out.
http://tinypic.com/13ynx1 its soo quiet now, under 3ooo rpm it sounds like a stock car and better throttle response in the lower Rs. i also noticed that it spools up 200-300 rpm later. no biggy though... at least my girl will ride with me now... :) http://tinypic.com/1ghjdc |
Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
i rain straight piping all the way to the back, it was loud as ----. but the thing i hated most about my turbo hatch was the smell, that thing smelled so freakin bad.

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
I thought you were hardcore. boy was I wrong. ::) :P
I prefer the silent but deadly approach myself. |
Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
I'm going to get one of those manual bypasses with the cable so I can run open DP as I please.
BTW, exhaust looks good. I liked it before too. ;) __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
what the 2 inches. you'll have to run 2 just to have half way decent exhaust flow. 2 2 inch sections has an area of 25.xx inches per cross section perpendicular to the pipe, and 1 3 inch section has an area of 28.xx inches, shitty.

So buy a 9" pipe if you think your 1.6 liter Honda needs to flow as much air as a diesel. :P

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
9 inch is stage 254.5, I'm not even joking about that one.

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
What would be the best stage for a turbo Honda application then? How about NA?

they have different sizes ;) the 3" e cut outs are about 150. i had open dp for a while and although i loved the performance at wot, it sucked ass for daily driving and you smell like 93 octane all the time :P right now i'm n/a but i got some 2" mandrel ran with a gutted cat, 24" resonator, and a thrush turbo muffler, it sounds so quiet, but not as gay as stock, so i'll be running a 3" dp with e cut out when i'm boosted again, to have the benefits of a 3" open dp when you need it, but the sleeper quietness of stock looking/sounding exhaust. lol, pull up next to someone and rev on em with stock exhaust, then open the dp and bounce off the launch control and see their expression change real quick ;)

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
Where did you find the 3" E-cutout for $150? ???

the cutout idea works..because your only destroying the environment when it's nessicary for racing

Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
i dunno... i thought about an e cutout over many beers and i decided against it. why not just have a well thought out simple exhaust system? if a turbo and muffler don't quiet it down enough for you just add a resonator or two.
one thing i didn't like about the E cutouts is that there seems to be reliability and longevity issues. i dn't know first hand but thats what i read, plus is alot of cash i don't have. The atp turbo actuator cut out looks pretty ------- sick though... again, money i don't have. I wouldn't even consider the manual cutouts... no use in having to tell the dude at the stop light that you have to pull over first. thanks on the positive comments, i'm super happy with the muffler... my car feels soo much more stealthier, it feel more solid too for some reason, ---- isn't buzzing all of the time. I got it done today from this one oldschool hotrod guy that has a shop at his house. i was kinda scared at first b/c my friend recomended me to him. My friend said that he was a hardcore hotrod guy who hated hondas, but his prices where very cheap... so went anyway. the guy turned out to be one cool MOFO... he even invited me back to hang out and drink beer. I asked him what he thought about all the hondas running around and he said that he didn't like them b/c kids now days don't understand ---- about cars, and that he would never buy one, but he said that he could appreciate some of the fast ones and how they are being set. very cool guy. :) i like them oldschool hotrod guys, no static what so ever like some of the younger punks. |
Re:i sold out! bye bye open pipe...
you could get one of the cable switch operaterated cut outs, and run the cable through the floor under the passenger seat. Mechanical= no electric motor to fail.
