Thanks everybody, I wasn't expecting so many replies so soon!
I have been reading other posts all morning.. cool bunch of people.
Sorry to take the sunshine from youy morning man! I had my *** handed to me like 3 years ago when I joined JBO and damn if I don't search for 4 hours before I ask a question on ANY forum now.
It is debatable whether or not leaving it rough helps atomize fuel enough for gaines or not. More power to you on N/A set-ups but I leave them semi-pollished (camera flash made it looks a little more shiney) on the boosted heads I do as the slightly higher CFMs SHOULD have more of an effect..... N/A or F/I though I always mirror pollish the exhaust ports to keep carbon build up down and port match the intake manifold.

ooooooppps. Phil just pointed out to me that you said SKINNY not SHINEY. :1
The head isn't very deep because it is a SOHC engine and only 2 valve so it doesn't need a lot of room. They just stuck the fuel injectors in the intake manifold and cut some depth off the whole engine since there was no other need to be thick. If you are talking about height, it is a 2-piece head (I guess you would call it) with a separate cam carrier on the top. The headbolts are extra long and go through both the cam carrier and head.
A little bit of a different design than most engines but they all blow up the same.
