My buddy in college was a graphic design major. He built alot of websites for his classes and he would show me some of the senior projects other students did. Alot of the people that go to school for it do a crappy job/are unprofessional even after 4 years. If you want a good site you are probably should go to a design firm, or someone that has been doing it for a while, I would look at it as an investment. You will be wasting your time trying to DIY.

Yeah, I see your point, but at the same time I have a couple minor things that need to be changed/updated from time to time, and I'm not willing to pay $100 every time a price needs to be changed. I had no issues with Cray91's work with setting up both of the sites, it was just that nothing was updated, and I had no control over it.

Stealth,

1) Go to www.crowdspring.com
2) Create an account and make a project
3) Make the cost the bare minimum ($150 i think)
4) With the project, give good details about what you want, and the fact you want to be able to update it yourself
5) Wait two weeks while multiple people submit various ideas and mock-ups....choose the best.
6) Uppload site and be done (except for updates)

Go to yahoo! business, subscribe to the cheapest rate offered and and use their free DIY website creator, and upload to your ftp. I've just checked it out, it's not bad and youo can also do e-shop and stuff.

My buddy build websites. All manner from straight gay HTML to full flash hotness. He has a sight build for me that I don't ever run, lol. He keeps telling me to make it live but I dont have time for more side work.

Anywho, he is prompt and always gets ---- handled. He builds and maintains a lot of performance shop sites around here. Only thing is he gets anywhere from 100-150 a month to maintain them. This includes unlimited changes for the most part though.

The reason people get crappy quality work is because no one wants to fork up cash for it. Everyone who I've worked for always changes their mind on what they want, never wants to actually pay when it's finished, wants unlimited free updates like you're their tech support guy and has absolutely no respect for the work done. It's one of those things where you need to be paid 25-40 dollars an hour for it to be worth the persons time, or you're going to get some garbage quality work.

If you want to do it yourself, read your ass off and download dreamweaver. Dreamweaver can be usefull, but you really atleast need to know how html, javascript and css style sheets work to straighten it all out since Dreamweaver will leave a lot of little annoying things that need cleaned up.
