I hate VWs

My girl has a Jetta, and the other day she calls me freaking out because her door lock cylinder just started spinning with the key in it and she had an assignment that was due soon which was in the car. The lock cylinder then just pops out.

It's the only keyhole on the entire car. German engineering? ---- that they're only good for funny commercials. Ended up having AAA send a crazy old man from the local key shop to slim jim it open. He smelled funny but he was good ----.

Later the "power" locks stop working. I realized that they aren't really power locks at all, but a terrific pneumatic system with air tubes running all over the place to open the locks. That's gonna be fun to troubleshoot.

At least it's a V6 so it's not a total turd, but I still hate VWs.

Only Volkswagons I would ever own are the old Scirocco, or Corrodo

I heard using half a tennis ball over the lock mechanism. When compressed activates the pneumatic locking mechanism, fooling it into opening the central locking.

I know this worked on mercedes and some vw's possibly including the jetta?

Message Hitchhikkr, Jon. While Rob works on Porsches he rubs elbows with the VW and Audi guys as they have all three under one roof.

Wow, I fixed everything.

That was about a million times quicker than I ever thought.... When I was on vwvortex I felt like an H-T fag but they do have some good VW info over there.

VWs still suck a fat one.

thats why car makers put a lock cylinder in BOTH FRONT DOORS.

the cylnder is what is bad, not the air lock system. the tumblers break. i dont have the part numbers on me right now but its less than $20 to fix.

i have an MKIII jetta. it breaks all the time, but i still love it.

My Jeep only has a keyhole on the drivers side.....and it doesn't work. :1 If my battery dies in my remote, I'm fucked. :3

Yea I already fixed it the other day, it was the cylinder.

vws are soo wierd, its like they thought of all the different ways they could make stuff work with less regard for practicality and what ideas would work the best. I mean, who bolts their flywheel to the trans and faces the clutch cover toward the engine? WTF

jago, the air locking system is pretty reliable. the vacuum tubes are run in you door harnesses then back to the trunk, the pump is in front of your passenger tail-light. most of the time the power locks dont work is a loose connection in the hoses, the pump doesnt go bad too often.

and for the record, corrados suck a fat dick (like most emo VW owners)

craze8 04-07-2007 10:51 PM

Re: I hate VWs

Just be glad someone hadn't tried to use a key from another VW in it... That could have lead to a headache and a half with the lock cylinder going to free spin constantly untill the correct key was put in again. Same thing with the ignition switch.

Only reason I'm in school to work on VWs is so I can make money an not burn out on working on my honda as I thought about going to work for a local honda shop back home.

HMTguy 04-08-2007 12:22 AM

Re: I hate VWs

Yea The engine feel pretty torquey stock, I'd love to do some basic mods but I hate VWs. I'd have to try a burnout without my girl knowing or she'd get pissy. And about the tranny, it shifts nice now and I'd like to keep it that way ;)

I've read tons of horror stories about the locks failing, thank god they work now.

On another note, she's had the car for about 2 years, didn't come with a remote. I found out that it had keyless entry from the factory, so we picked up a remote and that's all it needed 8)

Racintweek 04-08-2007 08:14 AM

Re: I hate VWs

you'd be suprised at the power you'd pick up from I/H/E and a good chip. after that you'll be spending big bucks to go fast .

vr6's can handle a 100 shot all day :8

Tom-Guy 04-08-2007 08:18 AM

Re: I hate VWs

I daresay VR6 can handle more than 100 shot if it's tuned correctly. Those are stout engines, I wouldn't mind one in a RWD configuration running not-VW drivetrain. :)

just don't dump your car to the ground, throw in a plad head liner, run ultra wide wheels, stretch tires to fit the wheels, paint calipers burberry, listen to things like swiss cheezing air boxes, listen to ---- ANY of those sponsers say, buy ecodes, run a boser hood, and do ---- legitly instead of doing the typical homosexual accessorizing as if you were playing with a doll then you'll be alright ;)

Takes a bit of work, but the AAA vr6 engine barely fits into the bay of a 914. Seen it done. Nice little 1900lb ride, 911 susp/brakes bolt up pretty easy, trannys are the expensive part, spring for a G50 from a late 911 SC if you can afford it. 915 tranny can take it, probably cheapest way to go. The car i saw was built for cone chasing, but could have easly been a drag car. 8)

I know a guy that has a CRX that smokes, sunroof doesn't close (opens great), smokes, and has a bunch of ---- wrong with it. The guy is me.

What's your point? My VW has 62K on the clock, and I haven't had one thing go wrong with it. Nothing, not even the typical VW ----. Not one burned out light, bad MAF sensor, no smoke, nothing. And I wail on that poor bitch. I've had 2 new hondas, and this "piece of crap VW" has been more reliable and much quicker than either one of the hondas. I'm getting over 210 whp 230 wtq (mustang dyno) on stock internals/turbo/tranny. I prefer VW's, but Hondas are great too.

I guess what I'm saying is, who cares if you "knew a guy"?

No no no... I had a 97 ex brand new (1st car), and a 99 si. Not saying they were bad cars, at all! In fact they were a blast to track. I was just pointing out that dude's friend with the rope holding together the doors together was an idiot. I guess I've just grown to love the 1.8t and lemmiwinks.

I'm going to go crawl back in my VW corner now.

Okay, let me get this straight, you intentionally purchased heavyslut stupid coupes powered by dinky 1.6 liter four cylinders and bitch about speed? Uhm, :l

people want technology and they want it now, they dont care if its been tested enough to make it reliable. you can blame those EPA fucks too.
newer VW owners are just bitches anyways, trying to seem upper class buying a german car but bitch when maintenece is expensive and they arent reliable as a cheaper Jap car.

I care because this isn't a "typical" car problem. I had never heard of doors which would pop open on their own AND the shop he went to said it was a normal problem w/ that car. There are some things I would consider more serious than others and passenger doors which pop open on their own at would be one of those things which is more serious.

Don't get pissed at me if VWs are POS.

No one was bitching about speed... Least of all me. I believe i said it was a blast to track. The point of my post was to illustrate that I have indeed owned pre 01 Honda's, and was left wanting. As far as my VW goes, I got it at auction, well actually pre auction because I work for the auction yard for less than 5K. I'm a huge fan of the b18b/14g in my crx... but it doesn't have all the creature comforts that the VW has....

While it is faster than the VW, I don't have heated leathers, a working sunroof, and most importantly, i have severe police attention. For shits sake, I own a CRX too. I'm plastered, it's 7.58, and I can't coherently piece together an argument.

Cliffs notes: I love VW's more than I love honda's. However, I love them both. Sailor Jerry's rum ftw.

you are comparing cars that are a decade apart. and for your knowledge, JDM/EDM EF's had heated seats, power everything, and sun roofs. same deal as the MK2's, they had it over seas but not everything was availible here

find me a newer car that doesnt have the options your MK4 has and it'll prob be a suzuki or a chevy aveo. i worked at a dealer for 3 years and now all about mk4's and thier issues. its great to try and roll up your window and have it fall back down into the door, bad coils on just about every 1.8t ever made(audi, skoda, vw, etc), armrest console clips breaking, seat heaters melting/burning the seats, shitty cup holder placement dripping condensation on the radio, rear pads at 15k miles, water leaks from every place possible.
i could make a list 3 pages long of COMMON EVERYDAY problems that MK4's have, i sold the same parts day in and day out for issues that shouldnt have been happening in the frst place and VW did nothing, they could have at least supereced to a newer/improved part but they didnt. the used shitty part manufactures to build parts for an overly comlicated car to save them dough and rape the owners.

if i was an emo bitch mk4 owner i'd want to cut my wrists too

edit: its also very sad that a factory turbo hatchback with thousands in mods cant run better than a high 14, my bolt on LS EF does better than that

Did you read anything I wrote? Anything at all? I haven't had ONE SINGLE PROBLEM with my MKIV. And as far as thousands in mods, I ran a 13.7 (which I know isn't fast here), with a little over 6K total (including the car).

Sounds like a buzzy ignorant looking rice ride.

My daily for the last three years has been a high mileage 89 DX hatch, I get zero police attention.
