i hate turbos! *UPDATE W/ PICS Y0!*

GO TO BOTTOM FOR UPDATE

---- man, i was going to do my install last night, well, i had a few misc. things to pick up, the more i got, the more i remembered something else i needed grand total for misc. ---- ended up being 120 bucks, which i really couldn't afford to spend, but oh well. then i get my car to the house and start dropping the exhaust, oil pan, intake, etc. well, when i test fit my my manifold up, the ------- cocksucker that made it didn't make the external wastegate flange long enough off the top of the manifold, so my deltagate hits my valve cover and the flange won't sit flush >:( o.k., easy solution, use my 14 dollar dump tube flange as a 'riser' to bump it up over the valve cover :P o.k., then i had my boy there that said he could weld pretty good, well i drilled the hole in my oil pan and gave it to him to weld up in the shed while i was in the car port, he ------- blasted a hole through it, so we got the hole filled in and i left him alone again and he made a half inch beach that came half way up the barb fitting, then decided to blow a hole in the barb fitting :P i couldn't find my ------- wrench to change the cutting wheel on my grinder, so i had no way to cut my charge piping either. all of this and i got nothing done in 3 hours, now my car is sitting on jacks at my house and i have to figure out what i'm going to do about my oil pan, i'm sure if i cut the old fitting out, i could get a new one in there, but this ---- sucks, i wish i had just an old beater, i wouldn't care as much. i also have to take my a/c out for my mani that is 'a/c compatable'. i thought it was going to be a breeze, but i've never done an install, and i had two people there that barely even know anything :'(

Someday.. you will be ok. until there is midol.(sp) lol.. sorry you had shitty luck man.

davcivic 04-09-2004 07:12 AM

Re:i hate turbos!

Damn, that sucks. I also had problems when I did my hatch, I thought I had everything covered, but the day of the install I also spent like $100 extra in misc ----, and it was a pain in the ass. But I did have another car to drive around, it took us 2 days, there's always something going wrong, that's just the way life is. Just remember to walk away when something isn't working, drink something, come back and it'll work out.

I hope you are taking pics of all this BTW >:(. I want to see how it turns out. ;)

Re:i hate turbos!

yeah, it's just the fact that this is my 'nice' car, like when i had my 93 teg, i didn't give a ---- about it. i don't know, i'm just pissed, and now i have to use my flange just to get the wg over the vc, and i'll have to order a new flange, i'm really just pissed about the oil pan, but i guess it will be alright. i just don't have much time to worry about this ----, that's why i planned on knocking it out last night. oh well, ---- it, it's just money, and it's just a car. if worst comes to worst, i'll just get a new oil pan and put my stock ---- back on :-X

Re:i hate turbos!

LOL... i had the same problem when i did my teg. omg.. it doesn't seem as hard as you think until you get down and dirty. but the good thing was the ac was previously taken out. but the oil pan was a bitch.. then i had a leak and had to take it out and have it re-welded... good lucks.. take mucho pics. k

yeah, no ----, i've been on this site for a year, and no matter how much you know, it doesn't mean ---- unless you've got some experience :P it will all work out and be worth it, but yeah, ---- was a lot more difficult than i though, i'll have plenty of pics, maybe too many ;)

no ---- right, i was just going to jb weld the oil pan because even though i have a welder, i've never used it (i'm gay), so that was the last thing i wanted to mess up, but, my boy assured me that he could just weld it easily, oh well, i didn't get mad at him, i prolly would have done the same thing my self. i'm just gonna cut it out and get a new fitting and jbweld it in there.

you're right, there is no substitute for experience. I started my b16a install and 6 weeks later I had the bastard running then I overheated it and a month later I was going again. With experience you know what to look for, what to do and what not to do, you can read and look at pictures all day and still be behind the guy who actually did it.

Re:i hate turbos!

hey man dont give up. i almost gave up. atleast u didnt break your t fitting and have an oil filter from hell. fucken stuck. once something goes bad. just stop and go back at it tomorrow. and everything will come out cherry. the things that take the longest to finish and has a lot of problems its gonna run cherry in the end. i went through hardships in my install. but i got it done. and im boostin 11 lbs now. havent had problems yet. not jynxin myself. but go at it tomorrow. it'll be find. i finished my clutch and turbo install in three days. its not so bad. oh and i removed my ac and condensor. free's up soo much space

jb weld saved the day! i didn't know you weren't suppose to weld brass to metal ??? ::) anyways, heres the pics of the oil pan before and after my buddy 'jb' a.k.a, 'mr. weld' hooked me up ;D as far as the install, it got ditched :( i took my a/c out and freed up so much space, but the gay ass ------- ---- 'a/c compatable' stealth mani, put the turbo right in my ------- radiator fan, and there's just no way around that. i'm selling the turbo, manifold and wastegate on egay right now. i did get my oil return line installed while i had the oil pan off, just capped it off, i also centered my i.c. and cleaned the ---- out of my engine bay. hopefully, i'll have a new set up by the end of next week.

after my friend was done with the pan.....

At least there was some progress ::) ::).
It's looking good, It sucks you had to take the A/C out. and that oil pan looks like ---- man, but if it works, no one will actually see it after it's installed. Finish that ----, if you keep this up, it won't be ready June 19th ;)

Re:i hate turbos! *UPDATE W/ PICS Y0!*

hey teg.. when i did my install i used jbweld. it really didn't hold to well.. once i tighten the oil return down that ---- cracked. be careful. you should just weld it.

tighten?? lol, that ---- is jb welded in there only. besides, i let it dry for a whole day and used a spoon to mix the exact amounts so that it would dry to it's full potential. it's pretty ------- strong.

davcivic: i'll be ready, don't worry. i'm looking for a new turbo/manifold to buy right now, hopefully have it in by next week.

but at least your intercooler looks good ;D
i had the same prob with my radaitor so i grinded the metal down by the headlight and moved the brackets so i could move it over 1 1/2"-2",fit fine after that.

what i meant was, once i tighten the other fitting on to the nipple on the pan that jb weld cracked.

the whole set up is just bad luck to me. and i'm honestly a little skeptical on the cracks in the exhaust housing, a couple of them look pretty deep, and i just figure now is the time to get rid of it if i'm going to at all.

talk about how not to modify the oil pan...holy ----. also when is this bitch gonna be turbo?

projekteg 04-12-2004 12:17 PM

Re:i hate turbos! *UPDATE W/ PICS Y0!*

as soon as i find antoher turbo/manifold to buy, then as soon as it gets to me :P i'll prolly pick up a bmc mani, but it will take up to two weeks, that means two more n/a weeks with a fmic, all the ricers laugh at me.......

turboboy 04-12-2004 12:43 PM

Re:i hate turbos! *UPDATE W/ PICS Y0!*

go get a new oil pan. i wouldnt have jb weld anywhere on the inside of my oil pan, that ---- could flake off (especially with all that vibration and the fact that its sticking to paint in there).

did you try putting a pumper on there?....imo you are gonna have to push it up and back some ;)

R-MAK 04-12-2004 02:06 PM

Re:i hate turbos! *UPDATE W/ PICS Y0!*
