I follow in Johnny's footsteps
An operator at my company is selling a 1999 Camaro Z28. Its a rare orange color, has 23,000 original miles and been garaged kept. The guy is in his late 50's and never drives the thing so its in better than perfect condition, all stock.
How much would you pay? |
Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
13-14k max

He's a car guy I bullshit with him for hours so he knows what he's doing when it comes to cars. He's selling it becuase its a 6speed, he's having health problems so he wants an automatic. As a car to go fast, I don't consider it outdated |

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
if he would let it go for 14k id say that is a hell of a deal..... and they are a good building block for a fast car...

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
my friend that owns the supra and ss, got his ss for 14k, 99, with 65k. so i wouldnt pay much more than 14k for it. SS>z28, although not really. ;)

Hugger Orange perhaps? I'd see if the guy won't go down to 12k even. But 13-14k is still a good deal. And I didn't know the LSx series motors were outdated yet. Guess I'm just dumb :3

The SS has only 5 more hp and just ---- that would get changed anyway like tires and suspension.

Its the same color as this: https://i7.ebayimg.com/01/i/000/8f/df/92a2_3.JPG ^^ that is not the car, just the color. and yes, an LS1 is outdated it has no potential ;) |

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
That'd be Hugger Orange alright...
Nice thing about the '99+ LSx motors is the stock shortblocks are good to around 550whp. Seen some take a 250 hit of n2o and keep going... Buy it, get some truck manifolds, and shove the biggest damn Holset on it that you can for cheap. Or do it expensive and go S88 on a forged bottom end.. But yeah, don't buy it because the Gen III small blocks are outdated technology like Crxmatt said. :y |

Get it. I'm not a huge fan of Hugger orange. I am, however, a sucker for a Sunset Orange Metallic TA. |
Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
I'm a sucker for seafoam. Not really tho.
Not digging that orange. |

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
I have no idea what they're worth, but I like the color. You don't see 75 billion of them around with that color. You're on your way to 60mpg+ in the city. :6 :y

But like mentioned, the LS1 is a killer platform. A friend of mine has an 02 ss and the thing fucks out. I'd drive one. Definately a good definition of cheap speed. |

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
hugger orange. i would offer him 12500. tell him to take it or leave it. i would get it though if he bit.
|
Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
14k is the max i'd pay for it really...
the ls1 got some major upgrades in 2001. but the 99s are still sweet. what i like about the ss is the decals, name, and the factory options (which i believe you can still get on z28s, even when SS is an option :1) most ppl dyno their stock ls1s between 290-330hp and around 330tq. https://www.ls1tech.com/99Camaro/99hugger09.jpg |
Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
As long as it isn't the notoriously weak 1998 LS1, any LS1 is going to perform like a champ for outdated technology..

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
Maybe I will get it. The only thing I don't like is there's no room under the hood for anything and they are a pain in the ass to work on. I do like my Mustang so I don't know what to do.
Oh and the guy wants $12,500 for the car. I just wanted to see what the ballpark was |
Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
Could say the oiling system and head design are "outdated" by the LS7 I guess is what the dude was trying to say. You can fit a whole lot underneath the hood, or out back. HMT STS kit wouldn't be hard to piece together for under $2,500. So $15,000 for a 450-500whp machine isn't too bad. But I say buy it and spray the bitch. www.ls1tech.com is a decent info source

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
Think that's the point the CRXmatt guy was making. Can't really see what else is outdated, so I figure that had to be it? When you gonna boost/spray your thing?

Since I have a nitrous kit now I'd just take it off my Mustang and put it on that. Just up the shot to a 150. So I'll spray it until I boost it. I would be disappointed that I never did get to turbo the Mustang |

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
300 hit of spray is going to overcome the stock shortblock after a short amount of time. Safest is a 150 shot, and it will hold that all day. I'd go dry and just descreen the air sensor. Lot of the vendors over on LS1tech have some good advice on what to run spray wise.

Re: I follow in Johnny's footsteps
Wait, wait. What is all this talk of outdated pushrod engines. :P
