Yes, the camry do break. In fact, they spin rod bearings at 120k-140k miles like ------- clockwork. The stock oil pressure is too low (just like the Mseries...) and the bearing clearances are too damn loose from the factory. Not to mention the S-series were designed to run on 20w-50 (clearances and such) yet most never see anything heavier than 10w-30.

Apart from the 7Mgte, the 5S is quite possibly the worst motor toyota ever built.

OP, you only had a few thousand miles left on it anyway.

The genI 5S isnt quite as bad, as it doesnt contain the oil-pressure robbing balance shaft unit under the crank (98-). But still not that great. An oil pump bypass shim and a 40 weight oil go along way to the longevity of a 5s.

Dude, like Rawr said, just go slap another S motor in there, and go down the road. When it spins a bearing, slap another in. You bought a camry. Thats what you get.

When I say smoking I mean a ------ GANG of SMOKEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE not steam. Like broken ringlands on every cylinder. The car will smoke like a ----------er just driving. Its impossible for you not to have noticed it unless your blind or cant smell.

All that extra oil has to go somewhere if thats your theory and guess what it burns off and alot and guess where it goes out the exhaust.

That's perfect! ask them what oil they used and when they say 10w-30 tell them they weren't following recommended specs and its their fault. I mean I agree, just let it slide and get another motor, it's probably not worth the headache of bitching, but if you do choose that route there's your claim. Breaking on the way home from the shop is pretty suspicious, if nothing short of a flashing sign saying "hey we fucked up your car"

Again Im having a hard time believing quicky lube ruined this motor. Overfilling motors with way to much oil the car is so obviously there is something wrong starting it driving for has long has you did is not happening

When this happened when my Tard friend decided to try to fill a honda with 7 quarts we went around the block like 2 minutes of driving and the smoke cloud followed us and could be seen down the block well after we pulled the uber JDM powered VTECHHHHHHH eg6 into the Super garage of awesomeness.

I agree with chris. The motor has such a piss-poor track record, the process of changing the oil could have drained the oil pickup completely, forcing the motor to re-prime itself. If it was on edge to begin with, the lack of oil pressure from the change on startup might have been the straw that broke the camel's back. Just a thought.

i tow a lot of cars within a couple of days of getting their oil changed at valvoline, jiffy lube, etc...if it's a chain store, they def should have insurance...most of the time the problem is that the oil drain plug falls out and all the oil runs out of the motor while cruising down the road...you are definitely going to have a harder time getting these guys to replace your motor if its a self owned buisness--and that's typical that they would become offensive...they probably do oil changes all day long and this is their source of income-they don't want to be told that they suck at life. That's low miles, but I'd disassemble yourself and see what happened :S

I overfilled my dad's honda lawn tractor once. Not a lot but enough to where it would smoke like a mother fucker out the exhaust if i went on an incline or bank with it.

I'm talking like THICK CLOUDS out the exhaust. Massive amounts. I thought I blew the engine or something.

With all the stoopid idiots we have at work we have yet to buy a engine. How hard is it to tighten a drain plug and make sure the oil level is correct? It did happen before I worked there though

Hi travis.

I put the car on craigslist for $500. you wouldn't believe how many beaners and other foreign nationals e-mailed me about it, 40 e-mails in 24 hours and not one of the with perfect grammar or spelling. The first one to actually come through on coming to see the car offered $450 cash and I took it. Good bye toyota camry, you will be missed, especially when it's raining and I'm riding my bike to or from work.
