I finally blew the ---- out of a motor!!
That motor mount is missing a couple of bolts, eh?
That could be a problem, I thought the block was not supposed to have speed holes in it.
Is that the broken end of a connecting rod peaking out there?
Oil everywhere
I can't tell if that bolt is sheared, but I pulled it out of the mount without any twisting.
You can see where the oil trail starts
This shot shows the length of the oil trail before I coasted to a stop.
The story: 96 Toyota Camry 2.2L, I bought it last May with 68000 miles on it, it now has 87000. In Maryland you have to get your car inspected to get it registered. I went to get an inspection Friday, and got an oil change while I was at it since the car was due (and I don't have a jack and oil pan to do it myself since I left all that ---- behind when I moved). about 11 hours and exactly 37 miles after I leave the shop I hear some noises you don't like to hear from your engine bay, oil smoke is everywhere, and the oil light goes on. I coast to a stop, run home (literally running, I was less than half a mile from my house when this went down), get some flash lights and a camera and snap away. The dipstick still shows oil at the low mark on the stick.
I went to the shop that did the work to see if they are willing to claim liability and of course they get super defensive saying there is no way this could possibly be their fault.
My theory is they overfilled the oil and fucked my ---- up, they say that is impossible and that that generation is known for having a bad bottom end design. I have been looking up problems with the 92-96 camry online and I have found nothing about that generation having a shitty bottom end.
Any ideas about what I should do?

Re: I finally blew the ---- out of a motor!!
you bought a used car out of warranty with no warranty what more do you want to know?
edit: read the type too fast and i see that you've owned it for a while. find the regional manager for the lube chain and go over the shop directly.

That's crazy... It seems there is a correlation between the oil change and the blown motor. Talk to the owner of the lube shop.
Jack stands (and peace of mind knowing it's done right) > New motor
Good luck man.
