I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

Well I have a guy that is wanting to trade his stang for my EG2 Del Sol straight trade. I don't know jack about these so input is appreciated.

The Sol: https://www.homemadeturbo.com/forum/...?topic=89839.0

The Stang:

"The good:
-Runs greats
-Looks good (compliments all the time, thumbs up driving around, etc)
-Low miles on 245-45-17" tires (fuzion)
-5.0 motor is 100% stock
-New exhaust (xpipe, but needs mufflers/cats to pass any type of inspection)
-Recently changed spark plugs, distributor cap, rotor button, plug wires, coil, and antifreeze
-Recently changed rear brake pads
-Most accessories work (ie, lights, signals, top, windows, flashers, trunk popper, key fob, etc)
-Interior and exterior are complete
-The car is very reliable and drives nicely. The motor is also still strong and pulls hard.
-Low miles on professionally installed Motive 3.73 gears
-Car is almost completely original except gears and exhaust
-Clutch still grabs hard, no tranny grinds/noises, no diff noises/grinds.
-Heat works great

The Bad:
-Had a minor coolant leak, but I used stop-leak to temporarily fix it. No leaks in 2 weeks. -You have to help the driver side seat move and driver side rear glass
-The top is tattered on the edge behind the windows, but nothing major to make it leak
-lLeather/interior is sun beat, seats are torn on the sitting surface, but the carpet is decent
-Small dings and paint chips, but are barely noticable
Odometer is stopped at 160,000 even, possibly not the original cluster as it has an overdrive light. It was like this when I bought it, but it drove and ran so good, I didn't worry about it.
-AC compressor bearings seized so I routed the belt around it. The auction comes with an extra compressor. AC system is still complete as well.

I will include a lower GT40 intake and 600 holley carb. Also includes the factory 3.08 gears."

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

If you get decent money for your del sol you could probably get a non fucked with next body style GT.

BigD 01-31-2008 06:11 PM

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

Yeah I like the body style right after these. Probably won't get it just because it's a V8. I do like good gas mileage which is why I don't drive the Camino as it is. I hate those wheels though, they would be the first thing to go.

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

If you've never owned a 5.0 Mustang, I'd say get it. I think everyone should own at least one. Anything that is possibly wrong with the car can be fixed because there are SO many suppliers of parts. And the gas mileage will depend alot on HOW you drive the car, like most everything else. Have the car tuned up(if need be) and work on having the car run as good(not necessarily fast) as possible. DD for as long as you have to, and then you'll also have a car that can be as fast as you're willing(MONEY) to make it.

all i know about the fox bodied stangs and such, there is MASSIVE aftermarket support. i mean jegs/summit have strictly mustang sections. my .02

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

i dunno why youd dump a honda for a mustang for a DD. i couldnt see it having much more room than you have now. the back seats in those things are useless. the trunk in a del sol is pretty big even with the roof in there so it makes up for the fact that it doesnt have a rear seat.

for a DD its going to cost more in gas and tires will be more expensive. if anything id keep the other del sol S you picked up and use that is your DD then start wrenchin on the stang.

my old del sol S made a great DD, cheap tires, great on gas no matter how i drove it.

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

don't do it, you have no clue how many miles are on it, the top is going to need replaced, the 94-95 5.0's are super slow stock, but if you plan on modding it, it could be a good project due to the fact once you mod the 5.0 which is relatively cheap it will be pretty quick, and the body appears to be solid in his long distance photos. I just don't forsee it being a good daily driver, its probually had the crap beaten out of it

Souron 01-31-2008 09:18 PM

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

i wouldnt bother, its a good motor, the carb is useless, the intake i believe is useless unless you buy the upper, those wheels are stock as far as i know, with 3.73 gears it wont get horrible milage, but it is still a V8, would be a fun car to make go fast, but i dont like that style so i wouldnt bother myself

I was reading the description, and Stop Leak is a ------- NO.
Prepare (after a cooling system flush) to more than likely be pulling out the heater core, it will stop it up in no time. There's been two cars come into work in the past week that had that ---- put through them, beware. :S

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

its a vert, unless youre a girl its a bad trade. i mean a del sol is a girls car but its more manly then a vert mustang. nothing screams prom queen more then a convertible mustang.

I agree DON'T DO IT.

That mustang is a dingy piece of ----. If it wasn't a convertable and was an unmolested original 5.0 driver car, then it may be a good deal, but it's not. A carb,... come on honestly this dip doesn't know anything about those mustangs. I'm lazy and didn't read the whole thread but if i had to guess i'd say it's a v6 car that has the carb so he didnt have to convert all the 5.0 stuff over, ie computer, different maf etc... blablabla. probably worth about 3500 as it sits. well that's what it's worth to me. and i've seen a fair number of these cars.

i think you're the dip.

it says "-5.0 motor is 100% stock", "Car is almost completely original except gears and exhaust"

he prob giving him a carb with it to offset some of the price difference

i'd stick with the honda personally. better gas mileage as a DD. plus i think that specific year of stangs looks like it fell out of the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

I'll say this. I have driven a 97 del sol vtec (rock stock) and a sn95(hardtop) with only exhaust. Hands down the stang was WAY more fun to drive. also a lot more practical of a car than a del sol. However I would be weiry of the cars mileage and condition... i dont like that body style, but torque pwnz when uve been driving fwd 4 cyl's for a while.

Re: I don't know crap about stangs, would this be a good trade?

Turn around and walk the other way. You want a DD but looking at a v8 over your d15? The trunks in Sol's are huge. Not to mention who in the hell is gonna fit or want to sit in the back seat of a stang. You have friends who are migets or have no legs or something? Hell anything is gonna feel faster then a d15 Del Sol...you post on HMT so turbo that thang and ---- that stang.

It's not my driving I'm worried about, it's the other dumb asses on the road. I have been hit twice before and the only thing that saved me on both occasions was the air bags so I want a DD with air bags. Not to mention my insurance is cheaper with the extra crap. It's cheaper on my Del Sol Vtec than it was with my 91 Si hatch.
