I was told it's a 1971 240z, all original, original rims in the trunk, interior is decent, carpet is gone, seats are ripped, but not too bad, No rust, Florida car, some rust bubble spots around the quarter panel wheel well, but nothing going thru. Decent paint, more than likely repainted, no body work done before.
The guys is asking $3,000, runs fine too.

Seems a little steep to me, but it sure is a nice car. How many miles?

Problem is that smart questions like that would be nice to ask when looking at a car, wouldn't they? :1 I don't know, but the guy just did a quick rebuild, new gaskets, seals, and such....

well i got a 260z for 1900 in perfect condition. iterior was perfect and the body was perfect with new paint and no dents/dings/scratches along with some after market body parts...and the motor ran great with an intake and flowmaster on it

Hmm.. I'd go check it out and see how flexible he is on the price as well. And take it for a drive. If you don't fall in love with it, don't get it.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

Yeah well I'm big and tall, so it's a little cramped in there anyways, but it sure looks nice. I can get the price down. He is asking $3000, but my bro-in-law knows him and he confessed already he would let it go for even $2000, So I could go down and offer that.

But I agree on the test drive. I'll probably do it soon see what happens.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

They have smaller interiors so if your a bigger person take it for a test drive for a bit. I'm only 5'6" and my old hatch feel alot bigger. I tossed a recaro seat I have into it and with my 6pt rollbar. Don't get in if your closterfobic(dig my spelling 8)) The paint looks pretty faded from the pics but body looks really clean. Check the battery tray, floor panels, and the panel thats ontop of the brakelights cause those are main things that corrode in Z's and are kind of a hassle to repair. Overall it looks pretty solid but that's just "looks" listen for rear clunking too. Thats quite common also. What got you interested in the S30? Just something you always wanted or something else? Though 3000 is kinda steep. I paid 1200 for mine and the body wasn't perfect but it had a rebuilt engine with header and a cam and nice stereo. I'd say around 2g's.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

Yeah I'm 6'2", I had to really go down to get my head in the car, once in it wasn't too bad. I would need to put a seat further back a little anyways, and get a smaller steering wheel, that thing is huge, looks like a big rig steering wheel.

I just always like the looks of the car, all the Z's, and this one happened to appear all of a sudden. Paint is ok, a good clean/buff would help and it's a camera phone, unfortunately the owner wasn't there so i could not drive it, but the car was open and he told me I could check it out on the phone.

I saw a little of superficial rust on the backlight panel like you say, there's no carpet onit so I check the floor, everything is there and solid, it looks like it's been in florida all it's life, so no snow and salt ruined it.

My Bro-in-law is a car body guy, he checked and there's no bondo or repair, what you see it's 100% what it is. We saw a little bit of rust on the top of the rear light panel, a few bubles on the rear driver side wheel well, and a little bit on the driver side cowl to windshield panel, close to the glas but fixeable.

Any swaps available, or anything interesting to do with this thing?
I'm going to start for serious research on the car, If I can get it down to $2000 I think it's fair because of it's condition, then work on it.

I'm wanting do to an old car, either a 70's z car, or a late 60's 70's muscle car.....But a lot of people think they have gold with the muscle cars, even if they are complete crap or a cheap model with a v6. I can get the body work done for materials, and the mechanic work I do, so whatever it is would be nice.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

I don't even know where to start with swaps. Hit up Hybridz.org. You people sticking anything and everything into Z's. Viper V10's, alot SBC's, RB25's, RB26Dett, SR20det's(one guy makes a adapter plate to use the stock Z tranny with a fwd sr20 block) Toyota V8's, Nissan V8's, and the F20C debate is always going on. Discussion about boxer engines but more likely too wide, seen acouple of rotarys and you should see the room leftover after those installed. I would like to see a 20b installed cause you sit in the engine bay with a 13b installed. Kits for SBC's are pretty cheap too if you decide to go that route. It all depends on your pocket book or fabrication skills.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

it's a 240, not a 260 or 280. so value is a lil bit more imo. especially since it's all original. i guess it all depends on how she runs.

my 280 had 41k miles all original i paid 2700

If it is a solid rust free car that price doesnt look too bad.I guess it depends on what they are worth in your area but where i live they are worth good money.I would snatch that up in a second as I love 240's :y

That's the thing I haven't even seen one for sale around here, not a 240 anyways, you might see the older 280z but not a 240z.

i always find the cheapest cars in florida. in florida, imo, the car market is a lot lower then everywhere especially washington. not saying you cant find a good deal here. just the market as a whole

When I was working at Auto Solutions, and playing with Triumphs, one of my coworkers was a 240/260Z fanatic. We traded cars a couple of times. We were both well versed in how rust manifests by the time we parted ways.

Long story short: the rust is about ten times worse than it looks on the outside. Rust bubbles in FL humidity probably mean it's potato chip consistency and you can shove a screwdriver through the bubbled area and probably for an inch or so around it. It's good to see that the doors aren't rotted out towards the bottoms, make sure you pull back carpet and poke good and hard at the floorboard with a screwdriver. Run a magnet over the body to hunt for bondo stuffed in rotted out holes - car is old; single valence non-treated body panels mean the car has had enough time to rot into the ground 3.5 times since it rolled off the showroom floor.

240's are going for a lot of skrill if the mechanicals are original and such, and the car is clean. If you like it, get it, but keep price worth the headache. If you don't think you can fix it (rust! not mechanicals!) or maintain it then pass it by and hope someone older who owns a garage to store it in picks it up and preserves it.

Personally, if it's not worth keeping original and you want to play with it, I'd get a 280Z engine and stuff one of the Maxima diesel cranks into it. 3.2 liter stroker, IIRC, MMMMMM yummy.

Re: How much would you pay for this....I like it, but not sure how much it's worth..

Yeah that's why I said my brother-in-law was there to check it, he is a body/paint man. He checked the bubles, we went behind them, and I'm talking about 3 bubles about 1/4 inch around, it's solid, well those buble spots have to be taken care off, but it's still not going thru. The car has no carpet right now, you can see the whole floor, nothing bad. Looked under the car, looks solid.

The no rust Florida car comment makes sense when you compare it to any snow/salt state. I know there's better states for old cars, dry and warm, but this isn't bad. The humid weather isn't as bad as the snow. If it was a close to the beach car then I would worry, but this guys has owned it for a while, 10+years in Central Florida.

If I do get it, it will be fixed up as a complete restoration, slowly, no rush, a lot of things would be replaced, most to factory/stock specs, except for the heart of it. Engine will probably change, depending on my research. Maybe the stocker can be bumped up to something nice, just not stock.

Sweet, sounds like a good car. If you're really into it... walk up with cash and see how much you can beat the guy down.

if he's willing to sell for 2k, offer less than 2k, don't offer what he wants ;)

is that why it doesn't run? or did i miss the thread where it was finally finished? or is it even finished?

I paid 2750 for my 260z... 71 is a good year, and i think its worth every penny he's asking. '70 and part of '71 had the lowest curb wt ever in Z production. And a fully restored 240 can go for BIG money. The market for them is increasing. Try and get him lower, but if the rust is low (a demon among Z cars) I'd say take it for whatever. Its hard to find a low-rust 240z outside of california (and even then its not always garunteed). I'd love to get my hands on a '71 240.

i'll second this, a 240 is a rare find. from what the pics tell, this car isn't banged up. 3k is somewhat reasonable, only because we dont know how the car runs. but to find a straight 240 is a feat. if you wanna spend 3000, i might as well sell you my 280. if it will drive, pick it up. just think about the probability you'll find another 240z.

your best bet is to buy it and slowly restore it. just leave it in the garage and slowly bring it back to shape (if the car is all original). everytime i think about touching my Z, i think about barret-jackson auctions...and to keep a car original is to maintain a value that no mods can surpass.
