How is the Economy affecting you?

Just curious to see how everyones career/profession is doing with these so called hard times. Graduating school in may and my field looks pretty stable so far. I am however looking to expand my knowledge in other fields to keep income high.

Yes, if you are in an industry that is considered luxury (Motorcycles, Watercraft, ATVs) you are fucked. Period. I don't want to here about how well you are doing, post porn.

Nobody's buying cars so no need to make parts for cars (what I do) so it's getting a little sketchy at work at the moment.

I am in the postal service/army . they won't hire any new civilian workers, and all the soldiers are deployed, so we are double task and working overtime without overtime pay. (but hey thats job security)

Well with DRAIL being at the low end of the seniority list at AISIN he better be really ------- scared. As the wife and I are mid-level employees above the 150 that they want gone/payed off to leave/layed off.

We"wife,I,DRAIL" are now at a scheduled 4 days a week and 8hrs a shift. SCHEDULED as in a planned production, but their are fluctuations. In another words the wife and I are out about $1000 a month so we will most likely strive to make all the bills that are attached to the house"house/utilities" and then make ---- as payments to the non secured loans and the 09CRV payment(it will be the first to go)...... I already have everything I need in life and all the un-secured loans are my least worries since all those fuckers were bailedout, I'll call when I start to miss/late payment them to affirm them that I am trying but they are not going to cause me to go hungry. SO WHO IS WORRIED ABOUT THE SUPER BOWL?

I am trying to buy a house, and its not super simple like it was the last time I applied for a home loan 4.5 years ago. Im also trying to find a new job as im leaving the military in 5 months. Im walking away from a $40k bonus, a secure job, and a brand new house they just moved me into.

I do web development/computer ----. It's been entirely ------- slow for the past 6mo. I think I might be losing my job of 10 years soon. I've basically been doing unbillable busy-work for the past 3 months or so.

A small marketing company we work closely with (getting us clients and doing artwork/layouts) just laid off their 2 best people Friday which was like half of their work-force.

The last two months I've had money for all my bills a month in advance. I'm not worried.

We do well with our money so im not worried now but wifey just got laid off Friday. ------- bullshit, been there 3 years and shes 3 months prego. So for about 4 hours our household income got reduced by half. Yesterday she got a job offer from equafax lol so shes back in the saddle again and i could still afford to drink beer.

Hooray beer.

Still in school, funded by the Army, with full 01 salary and BAH(about 2k/month) so I can't complain. My wife is a nurse and there is always a shortage it seems, so no worries here with job security. As long as I don't fail out of school I will be ok.

Re: How is the Economy affecting you?

I work for a trade show exhibit firm. Design/build/service the exhibits. Our clients are being a lot more careful how they spend their money now. We have 2 major banks as clients and a few other good clients, but they are all worried about expenses that we don't really control. Weight, size, and ease of installation are our new main focuses. We have to ship everything via tractor trailer which is costly. Then when it gets to the show, we pay material handling based on piece count and weight. Lastly, at the show, average rate of pay is $80-100 straight time and $150 OT so it is really imperative we don't build stuff that is tricky to assemble.

The first 6-8 months of this year will be good for us. After that, I couldn't tell you how things are going to go.

As for really affecting me. I have basically no bills, live with my parents, and don't do much while making a decent wage. I'm fine. I went looking at new cars yesterday. Thought seriously about buying a MazdaSpeed3 but didn't because they were jerking me off with a 6.9% interest rate vs the 1.9% I expected to pay. ---- that.

It feels like things have been better since January started, but I guess not for the broader market.

Some of my neighbors are walking out on their houses and moving into apartments. Some of these people with more then 10 years of equity in their homes. :(

Come to california place is falling apart you dont have to watch the news to know the state is bankrupt, cities are going bankrupt. Stores closing on every corner. California is the heart of the us economy and the failure of this state is a huge reason we are in this boat.

From what I can see is simple, small purchases under 1000 dollars are going fine. Large ticket items are hard to get rid of just like the olden days of the 80's. Apparently the word finally got out that making 10 bucks an hour doesnt make you deserve much more than an apartment and a used truck,

I have no idea. I'm a honda technician who's been out of work since Aug last year on disability. So sitting on my ass collecting workmans comp through the usual shitty part of the year is nice. Talking to people at work, they said its slowed a little but for the most part business as usual.

I choose to stay out of Cali because of the shithole it seems to be.

My city just became the first in Alabama ever to have AAA credit rating. Economy is still doing well here.

Only stores I've seen close here are the ones that closed across the country, like CompUSA and Circuit City. There have been far more stores opening, though.

For a usually slow month, things are going pretty OK. This doesn't mean whatsoever that I'm not playing chicken with the mortgage company. Everyone should be. The ball is finally in my court, and a lower payment is the ultimate goal, and WILL happen. :6
