i still suck at launching so i dont know... launch at about 4-5k and get use to feathering the throttle off the line. its gonns take practice.

How come BBKA launches at like redline?

Re: how do you stage?

Different car but I stage at 5000-5500 and feathered the clutch out a bit, once it hooks let it go...

With Honda's I've tried diferent launches. You have an NA B18 right? I would probably keep it between 4500-5500, not higher or lower, either bog or spins too much...

Try that a few times, different rpm's then compare your time slips and find out which one was better.

Do they give you time slips at that track, that way you can compare everything 60' times, 1/8th time, speed well everything and see what works better.....

TurbodEG 03-09-2006 11:25 AM

Re: how do you stage?

yeah they give time slips...there is like a little hut when u drive on the way back and u stop there and they give it to you...i've never ran a car on shitty street tires before...and chris(B16CRXT) is going with me

serious or kidding? ideally you would launch as hard as you could....and slicks and an lsd allow you to do that

Re: how do you stage?

Anyone here know proper staging rules?

If you don't, go learn.

I usually prestage first, let the other guy prestage.......then I stage and bring the rpms up to 7500-8000, let him stage.......wait for the yellow flash and lift as fast as possible off the clutch.

Wait, doubt anyone here ever ran a Pro-Tree :)

DEEP STAGE!!!!

Re: how do you stage?

What I usually do...

Roll up the windows and turn the HEAT on full blast (sucks in the summer)
(With slicks) pull into the water box when instrusted, burn out and turn the wheel back and forth (no LSD)
(No slicks) Go around the water box
Pre-Stage, check gauages...
Pull forward ever so slightly until the second light turns on
Floor the throttle until the 2-stage kicks in and slightly lift off the clutch until you start to feel resistance (pre-load)
As soon as you see that Yellow light lift and go

or you could wait awhile after the other guy stages so his feet get shaky and he has a poor launch ;) when I race an auto depending on the car I trans brake it at the line and go as soon I see the third light, with a manual I was trying to work on feathering the clutch last year. every car is different and you'll have to figure out the best way for your car

Why do you turn the heat on?

Probably to cool the car down? <SHRUG>

Here is a good link for some of you guys who have not been to the track.

Don't worry about too many things. Take it slow the first few times and try to get all of the logistics correct so you dont kill anyone or yourself. Just try to have a good time and also improve your driving skills on successive runs. Remember, you can have the fastest car and still lose to a Pinto.

As for myself on street tires I use FTL in Crome set to 4750. Holding the ebrake, revs up a little, lightly clutching into prestage, wait for the other lane to pre-stage if I am in first. Once both pre-staged I creap in using the e-brake, half loaded clutch and moderate revs. Once fully staged as SHALLOW as possible (for best e/t and consistancy) the revs come full, clutch loaded, flicker of the 3rd bulb and its off.

On slicks everything is the same but I launch off the rev limiter at 7350. See the sig for my time :) Not shabby in a single cam.

Re: how do you stage?

Set line lock, preload suspension so you wheelie bars are firmly seated against the ground. Prepare to launch at redline on the high boost setting, with the tiniest amount of clutch slip to keep the revs up, because if you bog on 26" slicks you'll blow drivetrain pieces all to flinders.

Or, at least that's how Jason does his 70 1/2 split bumper Camaro, with the 540" and 250 shot. I fail to see why it should be any different for a Honduh. :6

I used to run my A/C just to have both fans going. I guess everyone has their own methods...

I think the most important part to it is the first gear feather. Put that bitch in your hat and handle it like a peeyimp.

Re: how do you stage?

i'm pissed at the times...but i never drive the car anymore so i dunno how to really...and my tranny is fucked...it doesn't want to go into second gear...

first run

reaction .987
0-60 2.390
et 9.842
mph 72.909

2nd run

reaction .155
0-60 2.389
et 10.284
mph 68.569

but i couldn't get it in 2nd the second run...and the first i kind of delayed throwing it in second...it didn't run what it did before i got the car...but than again when he ran it...it was tuned, on slicks, completely stripped with only one seat and he knew how to drive it...does it make that much of a differance...that he got 8.4 and i get 9.8?

no need for cool down, with normal ECU's you need 170 water temp.......unless you've found a hack around that.

Hit the burnout box at 150-155 water temp, you-ll be at 165 when staging, then right at 170 when the tree lights up........

Little steps like this make you deadly consistant, esp. when you are bracket racing.

Re: how do you stage?

i usually do my 2nd gear burn out
pull up to the first stage
wait for other guy to stage
choke on the smoke coming out of the vents
bring the rpms up to my 2step @ 6.5k
ease the clutch out a lil to hit te second stage and leave on the third yellow

Uhm, why exactly? To build up more heat in the engine/cooling system? Because that's what you're doing w/ AC; it's an inefficient heat exchanger system that acts as a considerable load on the system. If you want more cooling, you're going to have to rig a switch to directly power the second fan instead of the whole AC system.
