horsepower estimator program
i am taking a proggramming class in college and was bored and wanted to try and get comfortable with using Visual Basic.NET. i remembered a long time ago reading in a magazine a formula on how to estimate horsepower with a given amount of boost so i decided to make a calculator. it turned out pretty good, but i think the numbers are just a rough estimate at the crank.
does anybody know how i can post it up? here is a screenshot. http://www.newbieforces.com/files/screenshot2.jpg sorry sinister i used your avitar ;D |
Re:horsepower estimator program
looks like your makin negative hp
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
wow, that r gay. at least let us click on some ----.
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
"SCREENSHOT".
i was wondering if anybody knew of a way for me to post it up or host it. and it's not negative HP that thing in the bottom is Sinisters avitar with the tach |
Re:horsepower estimator program
that thing has to be horribly inaccurate
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
Why can't my avatar be in it too? That's racist. 8)

Re:horsepower estimator program
You should include the type of turbo an ----, and if its got an IC. But that would be getting waaaay too complex
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
i like how the red compliments the blue everything alse soooo well :D
hehhee, well upload it alreay, i wanna know how much hp I have with my 0 psi ;) |
Re:horsepower estimator program
This type of program would NEVER be accurate for soo many reasons its mind boggling. You might as well just include stickers and wheel size when you make that program ::)
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
turbo size would play a big big role.
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
like i said it is a formula for a rough estimate at the crank that i have been using ever since i read it. i just wanted a way that i could use it with out having to break out the calculator everytime. ::)
this place is starting to be more like HT everyday :( |

Re:horsepower estimator program
Geez guys take it easy! He never made claims of accuracy! He is excited to learn something new, and is sharing the progress with us, which is what HMT is all about!
Send it to me, and I'll host it at www.tunertoys.com and send you the link. Sales@TunerToys.com Using .NET, you could also make it a webpage instead of a compiled app... Craig |

what he said ^

Re:horsepower estimator program
Here's the real shizzy. This is an ITR motor. I made it rev out to 12.5 to prove to some newb that removing his rev limiter won't give him more HP.
http://b16crx.com/~tekphobia/itrrevwarn.GIF http://b16crx.com/~tekphobia/eap1.gif Wanna add a turbo? http://b16crx.com/~tekphobia/eap.GIF The program is accurate to within 2% of dyno figures. Only problem is, you have to know EVERYTHING about your motor >:( At some point, I'd like to build up profiles...only then will you know if retarding your intake cam adds a few extra ponies! -Tim |

:o HOLY ----. thats pretty cool but i don't think my class will be getting to anything like that beings this is just an intro class and i don't even like programming, just have to take it as a pre req. :-\

Re:horsepower estimator program
can somebody that has had their car dynoed while boosted post your stock hp and amount of boost so i can compare to see how far off this thing would be?

175whp / 122tq NA 263whp / 201tq 11psi |
Re:horsepower estimator program
Tim, that ---- is cool. I've always wanted a desktop dyno. :'(

Re:horsepower estimator program
16-17% drivetrain loss is usually on FWD honda's
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
well then with that i got 256 :-\, i don't think that is too bad for a rough estimate
|
Re:horsepower estimator program
I want that program tekPhobia! Can u hook me up?
Im guessing 210whp 205wtq n/a |

is your equation simply [(HPxBoost)/14.5]+HP? That is insufficient to say the absolute least. |
Re:horsepower estimator program
no it's , boost/14.7 +1 x stock hp.
but i guess it doesn't work so i'll use it for myself |
Re:horsepower estimator program
^^^that formula there gave me 236hp with 135whp on my b16 and 11psi. on the dyno i made 246whp. not a bad formula.

Re:horsepower estimator program
i always thought it was good to use if i wanted to see a ballpark figure

Re:horsepower estimator program
It's a new form of a fraction that cannot be converted into a percentage. It's posesses no true equations or values and cannot be divided into sections, nor can it be multiplied. It's not even a number. It's a scientific formula created to ---- the entire mathematical system up.
Didn't you know that? :-\ __________________ Best Car Insurance | Auto Protection Today | FREE Trade-In Quote |
Re:horsepower estimator program
The drivetrain loss doesn't linearly increase when you increase the power of the motor. Hence it should never been stated as a percentage, as that percentage will only be true at one point in the graph.
And drivetrain loss is generally overestimated. If you were losing 17% of the power in the drivetrain on a 300hp car that'd be about 50hp just boiling the oil in your transmission. |
Re:horsepower estimator program
Well, if your motor is making 175hp peak and you throw down 145whp peak on the chassis dyno, then I would call that a 17% drive train loss in power. WTF else would you call it? He wasn't talking about drivetrain loss at 1500rpm or drivetrain loss at half throttle. :P
