Honduh Rebel?
These things worth a damn?
I want a cheap bike. I'm not experienced enough to feel comfortable spending 6-10k on a sport bike, yet. These things are cheap as ---- and I would have much less luck killing myself on the puny little 250cc engine. Figured I could ride one of these for now and later sell it for a street bike. How slow are they? Are they pieces of ----? |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
you can kill yourself on a 50 if you wanted to :P

Re: Honduh Rebel?
Looked much more dangerous than two bikes slamming into each other head-on at high speeds :) |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
I would suggest a ninja 250 if you want a 250, they are just as cheap as the rebel, faster, and more sportbike like. I started on one and would recommend it to anyone. They are cheap on insurance I pay 120/year, and good on gas. Also get good gear because most likely you will drop it at least once(dosen't have to be at speed to count), and it won't matter if your on a cheap bike with good gear. Also always wear the gear all of it, even if it's hot outside etc. Overall even if you get tired of it being slow(it won't feel that way for about 6months), you will be happy it was cheap. My first year my bike got pushed over 7 times, by assholes at my apartment. If it had been a brand new 600 I would have been in a world of ---- to fix it, but as it is I spent 50$ to repair everything.

Re: Honduh Rebel?
two of my best friend s hti up the local bike dealership cause they just had to have bikes. well one left with a 250 rebel and the other left with a 250 ninja and niether left with their balls. They straight up give you a trial sample of midol and a tube of vagisil with yoru purchase as long as you buy a helmet from them.
the rebel looks like a toy when its parked next to a real bike, it looks miniature and the ninja couldnt really scare me and i dont ride bikes at all. Dont waste your money, you'll be on the bike a total of about 2 hours before you hate it and want more. |

I'd prefer a nice 600cc sport bike, but really don't feel like paying the price for something that will probably get fucked up. Undecided. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
I didnt think the prices for a used one were that bad but sinec i havent really looked i cant be certain but my boy paid like 2500 for a brand new 250. I couldnt imagine a used 600 being too much more as long as you dont mind 5 years old or whatever.

Dunno, doubt I'll get one this year. CRX needs boost. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
they have similar bikes in the msf course, they are fun in their parking lot, but I wouldn't want to ride one anywhere else. If you want a sport bike I'd look at the ninja 500, suzuki gs500 or a suzuki sv650 for a good starter that you won't get bored with right away.

Re: Honduh Rebel?
Buy a DRZ400sm unless u want to drive on the freeway a lot.
|
Re: Honduh Rebel?
rebel won't do well on the highway. at least get something that will go on the highway with ease.
get a mild mannered motor sport bike/sport cruiser. if you get a rebel ride it to san fransisco or off a cliff |

Re: Honduh Rebel?
i know 2 ppl that got brand new 600's and they say it wasn't fast enough after riding it for a few months
I would get a 750... or an old sport bike so when/if you lay it down, you don't get that mad. I'd get a bike with the intention of learning on it and it going to the ground in some situation. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
If a 600 isn't fast enough, they better be on a track. My 599 is a slower 600, and will run 0-60 in half a block, and 0-120 in a full block. It does top out around 140 at full tuck, mostly because I have no fairing.
Rebel 250 is a blast, but you better be well under 6'. At 6'1" I was super cramped on them. Fun little bike around town though. I also had a Ninja 250, very fun. Not very quick, but it handled very well and returned 70mpg even running the ---- out of it. Stick to older models, it seems they got retuned every few years since '88 (first year of 88-07 generation) for more torque and less hp. I bought mine for $1g and sold it for $1g, only paid for gas, insurance ($100/yr), and oil in between. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
All these people saying your going to waste your money are full of ----. If you buy a small used bike to learn on and don't ---- it up to bad you can sell it for about what you paid for it, there are always more people who want a starter bike. That way you don't start on something to big or nice and wreck your body or wallet. Yes the 250 is a slow bike compared to basically anything else but it's your first bike not your last. ultimately it's up to you but weigh the pros and cons before you make your choice.
250 pro's- cheap overall, gas, repairs, insurance. Easy to ride/learn on. Retains it's value cons- 1.on the slow end(14s 1/4mile), 2. some internet people may think less of you? |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
theres nothing fun about riding a bike that cant even get out of its own way. so eone i know had one and it couldnt do a wheelie even clutching it in 1st. that just shows how sackless it is.
you wont be happy with a 250 after the first 15 mins of riding it. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
rebels cant handle highway
im lovin the fury |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
underpowered bikes are dangerous. you need enough power to be able to get out of bad situations if they arise, and without shifting down 3 gears.
rebels are garbage. they are one step up from a scotter. if you buy a zx14 and never open the throttle its just like any other sport bike. its not even heavy. |
Re: Honduh Rebel?
I liked my intruder vs800 as my first bike, light weight, easy to ride, decent power for a cruiser, good resale, reliable, and cops just think your an old guy so you don't get pulled over.

Re: Honduh Rebel?
i bought a gs500e as my first bike, only payed 1200 for it. Its great on gas and insurance is cheap as hell, 200 a year. its fast enough to out accelerate anything at lights. any one can go fast in a straight line. it takes some one who knows how to ride to control it in the curves.

Re: Honduh Rebel?
+1 for SV650 as first bike.
|
Re: Honduh Rebel?
from someone whose owned one, it ------- blows if you have any ideas of acceleration or going over 45mph. it tops out at freeway speeds and takes forever to do anything. it may be good if you're 14 but thats about as far as it goes. snag a magna/sabre/nighthawk instead.

Re: Honduh Rebel?
SV650's are pretty nice bikes. Not as nice as the 599, but cheaper and easier to find, with better aftermarket support.
|
Re: Honduh Rebel?
my 200cc sports bike was a waste of money. Id say start with a honda 600rr and if you dont trust yourself then swap on a longer gear and lower it. Its not like your going to loop with a twist of the wrist like the big bikes.
