Honda made their coolant blue

I went to the dealership earlier today to pick-up a gallon of coolant. The sales ref. was telling me, honda change the coolant color to blue. Odd, I guess everyone likes the blue color. So honda decied to make it blue? Eh, food for a thought.

wtf that's retarded. Red coolant is gay too.

Everyone knows, coolant-green, tranny-red, windowwash-blue
wtf are women gonna do now?

I always ran honda coolant. Any other recondm's?

Donald125 12-07-2004 11:36 PM

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

i ran just water with a few drops of dish washer on mine

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

right now my coolant is straight ethylene glycol, no water added. the only thing I buy from the dealer is tranny fluid. and parts that no on else has like $5 each tappet nuts.

You do realize anti-freeze itself sucks at storing heat and transferring it? Water has an excellent heat transfer coefficient....better to have more water than ethylene-glycol...but hey, it's your motor.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

we'll see how it goes. it turned out like this because I forgot that my coolant system can't hold 2 gallons of fluid, it can only hold about 3/4 of a gallon.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

well the proper mix depends on your location.

If you never see freezing temps, then run straight water with some water wetter.

If you are in the north like me, then run 50/50, or there abouts. The actual optimal mix is a little different, but 50/50 is good.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

i use dealer coolant, and it is a expensive... I think almost 20 a gallon or something :'(

Gotta pamper that car, the hondas get water or pepboys type chit.

yeah but if you run just water and a water wetter then corrosion will own you. 50/50 mix all around.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

i ususally run honda coolant also unless teh dealership isn't open and it need it right away (i.e. late night engine swaps :P ), i also get all of my other fluids from the dealership (power steering, brake, tranny), except for oil, i do however sometimes rock an oem filter :-*

Cray91 12-08-2004 06:39 AM

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

I could see the Trans fluid and the PS, but you can still get honda stuff at a auto store.

I wonder what stuff is actually better performing??

what auto store sells honda fluids???

I was meaning the trans fluid and power steering fluid. It is harder to find, but some people carry the Honda approved stuff.

SkunT 12-08-2004 07:22 AM

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

its whatever autozone sells. :P
and on the subject of coolant, its 50/50 when the temps get cold, but when its warm, its 100% water.

wanna hear a story.
my wifes 'truck'- her isuzu trooper, I couldnt find the drain plug (the last time I changed the coolant) for the ---- of me. i look in the manual, humm...couldn't find ---- there either. ----- it, i will just drop the bottom line. then of coarse, what happens. -the ------ hose is stuck. i yank and yank and yank the hell out of it, then it comes off, and i get a face full of coolant.-and of coarse, I bust my knuckles to. that ---- sucked.

am i the only one that ---- happens to?

i have my motor oil, manual transmission fluid, radiator fluid, wind shield washer fluid, power steering fluid, and brake fluid imported from honda of Japan cause the USA honda fluids and the Japanese Honda fluids aren't the same. the Japanese fluids work better.

holy ----, how much does a oil change cost you? (i forgot how much it cost me, its been about 6 months. :-X)

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

my thought on the blue coolant would be since everyone else has blue coolant and honda does too now, maybe theyll turbo something, like everybody else and stop -----footing around, give us a real car

robs99si 12-08-2004 07:58 AM

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

i was joking. i don't buy crap from japan. walmart pWn3ns me when it comes to oil. a big 5 quart mobil 1 20w-50w synthetic for $19.00 and a walmart supertech filter for $1.99.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

I rock the cheapest coolant, with a mix of water, about 50/50. I also run a s2000 oil filter, it fits the same as a normal honda oil filter, but its better. 8)

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

dollar store radiator coolant is $1.00 and it's neon green and taste as sweet as the regual coolant :-X i've used it before.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

Here is a crazy story.

Our garage door was frozen shut last year when I was at college. I was lazy so I just poured anti-freeze on the ice and left for a little bit. I came back and chipped the soft ice away. A little of the splattering ice got in my mouth, that ---- was way sweet. No wonder animals love that ----.

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

it pretty much tastes how it smells.

a couple years ago there was a house party in my city, and some dumb native kids went into the basement and found a bunch of wood alcholol, they drank it, and they all pretty much died or fucked their livers up. nobody really cared tho. :-\

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

anyone ever use the very old skool trick of putting a hose clamp around the oil filter? -very old proven speed secret, the oil filter expands under extreme pressure and with the clamp, it doesnt expand and giving better oil pressure.

my uncle always told me that. :-\

sounds like it could work, makes sense. that's another extra 10hp.

he always done it on his sprint car motors :-\ BIG v-8's

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

maybe he did it to keep the filter from expanding to much and busting (if that's even possible) if he was running really high oil pressure, but i don't see how it could help performance any ???

*accually, it was to lower oil pressure, but i wanted everyone to argue over it. aurguing will probably happen anyways. ::)

how high is your oil pressure compared to a stock filter for your zc? from what ive heard the s2k filter is smaller much similar to the hx filter and what not.

robs99si 12-08-2004 09:38 AM

Re:Honda made their coolant blue

a bigger oil filter is better than a smaller one cause it holds more oil. it won't affect the oil pressure by that much, if any. since it holds more oil, the oil will cool down a little while it's being fitlered.

how would restricting the oil filter lower oil pressure?

I didn't notice any change in oil pressure, although my oil pressure at idle has always been less then 20 psi :-\
