Default HomemadeMotorMounts (So You Don't Have To... ;) )

So I was in the tech project section and saw this and wanted to try it anyway while I had my car down due to a new clutch. So I did it to the tranny and the rear using window weld purchased at AutoZone or Advance one of those two. Anyway, it was $12.88 plus tax I think? Okay so Dad and I cleaned them with brake cleaner (which if he could clean his teeth with it he would) then used spare plastic to smooth as he injected it in. They turned out decent and kinda soft though not exactly "rock hard" as I had expected. They go back in with the clutch this weekend so I'll revive this thread and tell how well it works and the vibration using only the 2 mounts not all 4. (I did JUST the weld not the inserts so it's really the link in the tech product not the true HMT tech one.) Enjoy.

I did that to my mounts about 2 years ago. All but the front tranny mount held up fine. I think the heat cooked it over time, the filler started to crumble out. Now I have ES inserts on the front and back mounts and filled ones on the sides.

I liked the ride alot more with the filled mounts. The ES inserts are way stiff and the car vibrates alot more now.

Yea man it's my daily driver and I wanted to stay away from the vibration hence the window weld and only doing the 2 that control forward and back movement. Um, one think I must add:

WEAR RUBBER GLOVES!!!

THEY WILL OWN YOUR HANDS TRUST ME. SHAKING HANDS AT CHURCH WITH BLACK CRAP ALL OVER THEM AT THE CHRISTMAS EVE SERVICE ISN'T COOL!!!

I used paint thinner and still didn't get it all off. I have a little around my fingernails, but still. Of course Dad cleaned his hands with brake cleaner and turned them death white. I told you he loves that stuff. LOL.

those mounts, did you try to make sure there would be no air pockets?

I did that on my previous civic, i got noticable vibration but it helped with a little wheel hop. it was funny that you could rev up the car and it would shake... just a little

the mount will eventually destroy itself with that modification. the filler will get harder than the rubber and rip the rubber piece, or if you put them in too soon before they are cured it will poop out (that was a mistake i made on one)

if you have extra mounts and you want to keep filling them down the line its a good mod, but if you want them to last going for the full urethane ones would be the 'best' solution

Actually I was going to do it as a joke, but he strolls home, "Hey JR, I bought some brake cleaner for those mounts buddy." I already got half a can from my buddy. He loves it.

In the tech section the link to where they use JUST the weld they say it lasts a LONG time and is durable. Cured? Oh yea, they are going in the car wednesday probably, but the car won't be on the road until maybe this weekend plus we did them Friday I believe so yea they are cured. Thanks for the heads up though man!

I have FTL so it might shake a little more. You got vibration? Did you do all of the mounts? I just did the two controlling forward and backward kick. Was it worth it? Elimate wheel hop?

No, no air pockets. I asked Dad and he said no way. It was ozzing out I doubt it too. He had it shoved in there hardcore as I ------ the weld around. So I think that's cool, too. Thanks though man.
