HMT Cooking 101
Lunch: Simple, cheap and tasty.
Went to the store this morning, bought a bunch of stuff. These Cheddarwursts were buy one get one free. @ $3.99 for 12 dogs, couldn't pass them up.
So I have enlisted the help of Mr. Foreman for cooking them. I would use a barbecue but it I live in an apartment and its more of a pain in the *** to take the barbecue outside and get it going than its worth. Plug in the George Foreman to heat it up, throw those babies on, close the lid
After a couple minutes flip them so all 4 sides get nice grilling marks. Should only take about 4-5 minutes for them to heat up and be ready. Throw them in some buns and toss them in the micro for 30 seconds to make the buns soft and merry some flavors.
Top with condiments and enjoy.

3 buns = $.58
$1.58 total
Dinner:
Now the Real Meal Deal. BEEF STEW. Its easy, you can do all the prep work in the morning, and Like i have, throw it in the crock pot and then go about your day and come back to eat whenever your ready. As I said, went to the store this morning, hit up the meat department where my buddy works. Picked up some round steak about ~1.5# , and he stuck some 30% off clearance stickers on them for me and away I went. Picked up various other basics, baby carrots, yellow onion, 10# bag of Russet taters.
Cut up the steak into 3/4" chunks and toss in a pan and brown it on the stove top. Toss in your fresh cut onion (yes i cried like a bitch) and let it soak up some of the beefy goodness. Your not really trying to cook the onion here, i just threw it in to clear up space on the cutting board and for reasons already stated. Transfer these items into your crock pot or big cooking pot.
The OG crock pot, we've had this probably my entire life, and I took it from my house when I went to college and my parents bought a new one. The **** for temp is broke off, all the stuff/ stains on it are permanent, scrub all you want, the paint is gunna come off before the other stuff does.
Throw in your seasonings and about 3 cups of water in with the meat and onion. I used a packet of stew seasoning from the store and pimped it some more with Minced garlic, fresh cracked pepper, a little bit of flour and some other random ---- i had in the cabinet.
Stir all that together in the pot and then its time to cut more veggies. I used baby carrots as they were also on sale. And about 5-6 medium sized potatoes. I always just buy a 10# bag because you can always find a use for them. Cut all the baby carrots in half, and dice the potatoes into about 3/4" chunks.
Add the carrots and Potatoes into the crock pot as well. If you are using a regular pot on the stove top, hold off on putting the veggies in, they will only take about an hour at the higher temp of a stove top even on relatively low heat. Crock pots are just easy, throw it all in, turn it on and don't worry about it until your ready to eat.
There wasn't quite enough liquid, so i added another cup of water after taking this picture. You can eventually thicken the stew later with flour or cornstarch to your liking.
Come back in 4-6 hours on high temp, 6-8 on low.
I'll take pictures of the completed product later.
Cost for dinner
$3 for meat, $4 or 5 if not on sale
$1.50 potatoes
$1 carrots
$1 onion
$1 seasoning packet
$7.50 and this will easily feed a family of 4 with plenty of left overs for the next day.
Its pretty impossible to ---- this recipe up. You can use some beef broth instead of all water or throw in some cream of mushroom soup or whatever. In the end it will probably be good.
