there should be no fines at all as long as he stays out of military airspace. anybody can legaly build an ultralite and fly it with no license at all as long as you stay out of the rigth airspaces. (i am a pilot, i know the laws)

i just read it better and he was in a traffic route. thats why he was fined. you can only be in there with an IFR flight plan. he also said he went through some clouds which you cant do either without an IFR flight plan

It says Larry Walters (who in 1982 rose three miles above Los Angeles in a lawn chair lifted by balloons) had to pay 1500 in fines but I dont think it said anything about this recent guy.. Maybe itll take some time before the bill shows up
