Hi-Point handguns

went to the local gun store today to pick up some brass and a new toy ;D when i started looking at a few of the Hi-Point pistols....wow. i really dont know. i bought a glock .45 and thought it felt like a toy and shot like ---- compared to my Sig p220 .45. i have a few handguns and have shot alot of different guns, but never one of these. it feels like i picked up a toy at toys r us. and there dirt cheap. the guy behind the counter was telling me there nice, blah blah blah. but i really dont know. i almost wanna buy one just to try. i mean, there made in dayton ohio and seem sturdy, i just dont know.
anyone own one, or fire one? just seems like a shittier version of a glock.

also, anyone ever shoot a Beretta CX4 in a .40 , the same shop had one for 500 new with two extra clips!! there go on gunbroker and auctionarms for around 650-750 pending on the seller and condition might go back tomorrow for it

high points are ------- junk
cx4 are nice, the kel tec equivalent the sub 2000 is 100% fail

raiden571 01-15-2009 07:05 PM

Re: Hi-Point handguns

i held the kel tec and thought if felt sort of weird, just not comfortable to hold.
i figured the hi-point would just be an expensive paper weight just seeing what people had to say other than the guy trying to sell me one

Re: Hi-Point handguns

I heard they are junk, but my only "real" multiple-use experience is with my Springfield XD 45 which I enjoy. When I was looking for a gun they handed me a Glock in the same price range, and yeah it felt like a cheap toy (however they seem to be good guns). This doesn't feel too much better being a polymer gun, but it feels solid compared to the similarly priced Glock.

They're crap throwaway guns that are innaccurate and extremely ugly, that being said they go bAng when u pull the trigger.

damn jamel O0 :3
i dont even like my glock. i dont wanna shoot wad cutters out of it, and it is to inaccurate to waste jacketed rounds on. plus i feel like i am holding the gun from duck hunt.
i scoped a few 1911 Kimber's when i was there, wasnt to impressed by those either. seemed like an cheesy colt for the same price.

well you cant go wrong with a springfield operator 1911

Re: Hi-Point handguns

Hi-points are guns made for poor people, or for those that want a 2nd gun to knock around (truck/kit gun). They're only slightly more costly than the Bryco/Jennings/Jiminez/etc pieces of crap, but are supposed to be reliable. There's a lifetime warranty on the life of the gun. Doesnt matter what you do to it, they'll fix/replace it. There's http://www.hipointtalk.com.

Military surplus handguns are running dry, so after they are gone, the only cheap quality guns will be hi-point. If you can afford a more expensive gun and it's upkeep, go for it. But for those that cant, but need some protection, buy a hi-point.

this guys right, dont waste your money if you already have a couple nicer hand guns unless you want it for a gun you dont really care about or to have for friends when you go shooting. i fired easily over 1000 rounds through my 45 hi-point without any problems before i sold mine. and my friend has shot at least 5 times that much without even cleaning his. there just a simple gun without anything special. could never get mine sited all that well. but my buddys 9 mm rifle hi-point is decent. only problem he had was with the fireing pin, but got it replaced (he also bought his used)

kimbers recent quality control has been hit or miss, my buddy has a tlr II and it functions flawlessly though.

I got one and I would buy another. its a 9mm and its a fun toy. I'd grab my shotgun if I really needed a gun. It did break, but they have a life time warranty so it was a free fix.

Re: Hi-Point handguns

all the ---- talkers have never shot one. i have a hi-point 9mm i keep in the car. i have a decent bit of rounds through it and i never had a malfunction, ever. and its dead ass accurate. i can easily shoot about 2-3 inch groups at 25yards with the cheapest ammo i can find. its a great gun for what it is, just don't plan on carrying it, its heavy as ----.

Liar. I call bullshit on anyone saying 2-3" groups at 25 yds with cheapo handgun rounds.. I will need live video.. Until then, you are a fag, or you shoot your groups like a bitch.

There is no ------- way you ran 2-3" groups at 25yds with shitty ammo out of a highpoint. Get the ---- out or prove it. I'll toss up vids of me at the range since I got a camera on the way. Sub MOA at 100yds with irons :S

Hipoints are innaccurate pieces of ----. If you trust one as your car/carry/self defense gun, you deserve to have a FTF in a bad situation. I've dumped 1000 rounds through one at the range, not cheap ----, but not expensive ammo either, Winchester white box stuff. Every 30th round or someshit with the 9mm would fail to feed into the gun. It had an issue with cases coming through the ejector cracked too. Bad news bears.

If you are going to get a budget handgun, Ruger P95's can be had in decent used shape for like $200.. Almost bought one for $250 the other week with 5 extra mags and a holster.

2-3" groups with a pistol at 25 yards :P

must be a pro and shoot everyday

2-3" with good ammo (read handloads/hornady TAP stuff) and a decent gun isn't hard. Hipoint+commerical surplus=no. It's like going from a Class F Rifle to an out of the box Remington SPS (Since I can't think of a cheap shitty rifle) at 1000 yards. *Disclaimer, I love Remington 700 series* Or like going from Wolf .223 Military Classic to Handloaded Lapua Scenar ----.

white box is the cheap ----. but you must have got a lemon or something man. my hi-point has been nothing but perfect, not one malfunction out of it. easily the most accurate handgun i own, a tad better than my 24/7 and miles better than my kel-tec.

must have, and yes i would.

but alot of people also hate taurus and kel-tec, but i love both of mine. i also have a remington 597 to plink with and most people say how great they are, but i have had a decent bit of problems with mine. you win some and you lose some i guesse.

Re: Hi-Point handguns

Kel-tec ftfw! I just say that because I had one for awhile and liked it a lot. My bro had a 9mm Hi-point and it was alright. Probably along the lines of a Romanian made AK-47 or like the SAR-1 made for civilians. So made with inferior quality parts, but simple and do function most of the time. He always brought it along when we went shooting and put a bunch of rounds through it. I found it decently accurate I guess. It did jam every 30 or so too. Good beater gun.

Re: Hi-Point handguns

I've never used them so won't comment, but usually price will give you an idea of the quality. If it's really cheap, it's being pumped out en masse at factories with little quality control, and while some get "perfect" guns, many won't.

I wanted to make sure whatever gun I buy, would not fail on me when I needed it most, and got one that wasn't a cheap gun. For general plinking at the range, I wouldn't mind a cheap gun, but even then I'd rather spend the extra money on one that won't cause me a headache.

For ranging, I use the cheapest blazer ammo from walmart. For my "defense" clip, it's fully loaded with pricey jhps.

the Kimber i held just didnt feel nice. granted i was looking at one of there less expensive ones ($850) on display. i wasnt even goin to bother looking at one that cast over 900. i can pick up a nice colt for 1000, so why would i bother with something i didnt feel comfy with

Yeah my hipoint has never failed to feed the white box ammo. Hell thats all i buy. I have the 9mm version, and i love it. Never had a problem with it. Never stripped it down either, so i might change my opinion when i do.

kimber wouldn't take one if given one for free. any gun I can't trust to feed when i have a tool to drop is a worthless expensive pos. look into rock island armory aka http://www.armscor.com.ph/

Wilson when he was taking in certain brands to fook with even wouldn't touch kimbers lol

Hi point on winnie white box FTW. My groups are so tight at 25M that I go through the same hole every time. Either that or I only hit the target once. Havn't decided yet.
