H22A or B18C-R

which one is better overall? im planning on getting one of them but only had any experience with the h22a. it will be going into a 95 hatch. is there a big difference in power? this will probably be an NA setup.

Re:H22A or B18C-R

NA. I would go B18. its from the type R. the type R is made for high RPM abuse. if your gonna go all motor, go B18.
now you have my $.02

ask abaz. he would be able to help you out. he said hes been lurking the all-motor forum on www.honda-tech.com 8)

Re:H22A or B18C-R

Well, i would thikn the h22 would be better for all motor, mostly because of teh displacement. THe type R motor is already built for high rpms and such, but its still double the price tag of the h22. with the money you spend on the b18, you could build that h22 up nicely, or put together a nice ass turbo kit and push 10 psi on the h22, and im sure that would be a setup good for 12's....

Re:H22A or B18C-R

don't bother spending the 6 grand into an h22 just find a nice b18c1/c5 and mildly build it then boost it.. or go cheap and get a built lsvtec + boost

I think its because no one here has enough dough to buy a H series or a type R motor.... :'( sad but true.

Personally I would go for niether. H22 the hassle, the money. ITR, the money. If you got that much dough build up a badass gsr or b16 or ls/crv/vtec n/a, or you could always go boost.

Basically niether of thems offer the best bang for your buck.

If you're going balls out, I'd do what AgentMurdoc said. Much better than working with the B18 or H22, IMO. Or you could always go with the disposable D and just run like.. 20 PSI each run (And have to replace the engine every run as well lmao :P)

Re:H22A or B18C-R

i would go with a built gsr...i would say its the best bang for the buck....over all the c5 would be the best stock motor. if your planning on building id go with a c1. but thats just me

Re:H22A or B18C-R

well im my case, money aint a thang. ;D both shouldnt be a hassle because i am fimiliar with the h-series swap and i can afford the b18c-r. im planning on throwing the bolt-ons and thats it but i want to know which one will be better overall with i/h/e, ja-kno? 161 tq vs. 134 tq and i still dont know which one is "cooler". but like i said, i am fimiliar with the h-series swap so no biggie 8)

Re:H22A or B18C-R

If money is no object, why not build a crazy B series? Or hell, since you have all this money, a K series? an NA setup is not going to get you the results you'd want for the money.. turbo is the way to go, of course.

well big balla, the only way either one of those swaps is going to be worth a ---- with just i/h/e, ja-kno, would be to put the h22 in the trunk powering the rear wheels and the c5 (i've never heard of a b18c-r, but maybe you can enlighten me) under the hood spinning your 18's.... ja-kno, since money aint no tang or nuffin........

Re:H22A or B18C-R

j-spec b18c can either be the gsr or the type-r so i added -r next to it. obviously you did not know that. h22a or b18c-r, which would you prefer for NA with lil mods, in a hatch. put it this way, both motors are free, which one should i take.

Dude, its stupid to go with either of these NA for a drag car. You will not get the results you think you are. I think you should take these people's advice.. just my two cents..

But if you want to get real technical, the JDM b18c is not from a "GSR" its from the integra base model. They dont have GSR or even use the name GSR in any integras in Japan land.

But since thats not the engine were even talking about, big deal. Both the integra base, and ITR use the same Badge on the Engine B18c. But it's pretty obvious to tell if its a type r or not.

I'd go with a ITR hands down, I drive my girlfriends built h22 everyday, nothing special.
