gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

I cant ------- decide wether to get.A Civic hatch 96-2000 or a 2000 VW gti 1.8t.Im dying for another projet!
On one hand I want comfort and comodity. But on the other hand I love the Civic hatch(EK).What the ---- should I get? Here is what Im looking at(examples)...
http://vortex3.rely.net/gallery/albu...l/2005/186.jpg
I know this is an R32(way out of price raneg) but Im falling in love with the gti 1.8t.
Plus side:Interior is plush as hell.Allready turbo charged and wouldnt have to put too much effort into it.A stock used one is around $13-$14k
Down side:its german so replacemnt parts and go fast goodies are stupedly expensive.

On the other hand................

https://www.homemadeturbo.com/leia/turboek1.jpg
(Sorry Jeff ;))How could you not love this model Civic?!
Plus side:cost effective cheap parts.I still have 1/2 my old turbo kit.I can pick up a 99-2000 for $5-$6 grand
Down side:Head swap(to get rid of the gay cx head/mani combo),no power anything, will take about $4k to get it dome up rite, hot target for theft. With my track record I dont need that :-X

I know were mostly honda biased but give my your honest input.

do the gti. my brothers got one and i love the car. hes got simple upgrades to it too and it lays down 230 ish at the wheels. all its got is an intake, exhasut, chip and the tranny has been changed to a european version. and its really nice altogether. the charge piping is all silicone also. i would do the gti, like you said stock turbo and you will have all the goodies. and not talking down on honda drivers (me and my gf have one :P) but it just seems like a more respectabe car if ya know what i mean.

its a diffrent feel, volkswagens feel like your driving a solid brick. They dont have that small hatch gokart feel that hondas do. They look nice, its just a diffrent feel. go drive one and see what im talking about. Its allot more solid and burley

true dat. the handling is totally different too, they actually handle pretty good off the floor not to mention after suspension work is done.

Well the reason I started to get into the gti is becouse I'm spoiled from when I get to drive the wifes A3.There is a big difference between VW and Audi(yes,I know they are the same auto group).

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

Well on one hand ive always like the way those vw's have looked, never driven but like how they look. Then on the return ive driven hondas and like how they feel. So lets get down to the point u said 13-14 for a used vw and then 5-6 for a used ek hatch. All this boils down to is how much of a jew you are, now me personally am such a big jew i should open my own jewelry store, but im not. so that parts up to u. Secondly you said you wanted a project, the vw is not a project is a yuppie semi fast factory car. r u looking for a dd you need now? If it was me I would personally buy some form of a honda hatch ( id go test drive some diff models and see what i liked) but then again it all boils down to how much money u wanna spend, time u wanna spend, motovation, do u really want a project?, and the vw engine bays look fuckn ridiculous to work on, not to mention.......german parts......blehhh. So look deep inside your inner jew/lazy parts and get back with us. your welcome

so does anyone know whats up with my posts lately?

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

personally i'd take the civic because its cheaper.

if you do decide to buy a 1.8t make sure it is a 180hp engine (2002-05). dont bother trying to make power on that stock turbo it maxes at ~220whp.

gti hands down. at least the gti would have some ------- options, ---- the base model hatch was lucky to get a ------- steering wheel, the ---- is too plain.

I owned an 03 gti 1.8T for about 7 months and that was a very fun and impressive vehicle, even in stock trim. good power out the hole, no real top end, it has torque, looks good, parts really are not too expensive, modifications are around, not as available as the civic, but there is plenty out there.

Me personally, of all the vehicles i have owned, i have never had 2 of the same make.......i like a nice variety. new projects are more fun then doing a project with something you already know, the fun is in the learning experience to me.

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

GTI.Honda is great if your wanting to build a stupid fast fwd but the GTI is way more car as you get some luxury to go with the small car feel.I agree that the VW feels like a much bigger heavier brick like ride but they feel alot better at 125mph than a Civic.

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

dont get either. if you must go VW go with a coupe, or sedan. passat, audi a4/s4/s6/a6. I have a4 its nice, great winter driving. but I prefer driving my civic.
if you must get a civic dont get that one its too -----fied. get a 5th gen or 2000 si.
vw/audi are hard to get parts for I still havent had any modification for my audi. except for ricer muffler.

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

Resident VW guy here... telling you that if the choice is between an EK and a MK4... buy an EK.

Last customer MK4 1.8t to roll through here was a stock turbo '00 1.8t (150hp stock). It was modded a bit, up around 22psi, chip, exhaust and we were doing a front mount. I took Dustin (turbohf) for a ride in it just so we could laugh at 18psi by 2400rpm and the fact that is was soo slow.

If you buy a MK4 1.8t just know that you might as well be buying a N/A car you're going to have to turbocharge because the factory stuff is ----. And the computer is too smart to be fooled, you can't dumb it back to OBD1 and have one of your friends chip it... all and all... unless you're going to leave it stock and sit in traffic every day, EK all the way.

car to drive: MK4 GTI.....looks hot, dont want to ------ work on it, dont want the spend the MANY thousands of dollars to make it kinda fast. stock injection sucks as Aaron said, its not a easy fix like a Honda, its full on standalone... its also a heavy bitch...

car to build: EK...what the ---- cant you do to this car? the EK pictured made like 472whp, with a chipped ECU, thats like 140bucks vs full standalone... parts cost less than the VW, and its easy to work on...your friends wont have to be tricked into coming over and helping ;)

that car was sooo slow...fucker hit 18-22psi by 2500rpms...then tappered off to like 12psi by redline :3

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

man, you need a 03 tdi jetta. slam it on some 18' and up the boost and its a bad ass car. my friends got one with like 22 psi and pull intake and exhuast (side pipes baby). he makes like 130 whp and olmost 360 torque. it pulls so hard, and i love how reverse is positioned on the shifter. crazy germans.
or you could buy and older gti and a hatch, still spending about the same amount of money as a newer vw.

You wouldn't have to put much effort into it? What kinda project is that! I would definately go with the EK.

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

I spent a little time last night helping a friend begin to tear aparrt a 1.8t motor. It's designed kinda......weird. i.e. the timing belt rotates the intake cam on the front side, then on the back side the intake cam turns the exhaust cam. Very strange.

VW Pros:
as you know the 1.8's will take a ------- beating and can produce some very nice numbers on the stock bottom end.
You can get huge gains from just a chip.
They look nice - a buddy of mine has a GTI with some type of Audi wheels and it's lowered. Sexy ------- beast with minimal effort.

VW Cons:
Motors are weird if you are used to hondas
Exhaust is on the firewall side. dunno why but I just hate that.
Engine bay is pretty cramped.
VW's are for homosexuals.
Aftermarket parts cost more.

Re: gti 1.8t or civic hatch?help me out here!!

GTis are sexy as hell, but I always associate them with little whiny rich ----- whiteboys. I would drive one, Love the looks. Have no clue about performance, but i know they respond very well with a reflash of the ECU or a chip.

It'll be different, there's 20 million hatches out there. But nicely done GTis not many. Most guys leave them stock. It will be different and kinda cool, but you can't leave it stock or you will be as homo as any other VW owner :P

Now with the money you will spend on the GTi you can get a badass crazzy fast hatch. I mean the VW is double the price, so just think about what you can do with 6k on a civic.

I'd say, go drive both and decide after, actually just go drive the GTi, you know how civics feel, so just test the VW out.

I wanted a G35 badly, because of looks. I went to check one out, and the interior really dissapointed me, and it feels too small fo the type of car it is. I test drove a TL and it was just what I wanted, except for the $35000 price. But soon I'll get one.

get the civic. If you want power windows, get them outta a coupe and slap them in there.

If you wanna be jdm, hit me up and I could sell you some SiR style bumpers and a wing :D

But seriously, if you wanna work on something just get a civic. You could do madd suspension upgrades and make it handle just as well, if not better than the vw.

Those charge pipes ARE NOT all silicone. I know because my ass was under that dirty pig of a car replacing those retarded ass clip coupling things VW decided to use for charge piping. ::) That ---- is stupid and then on the passenger side as it runs by the crank pully it turns into a ------- pancake before it enters a homosexual plastic sidemount intercooler. :l That motor looks like a son of a mother ------- bitch to work on and if you're like me(and I know you are Raffi :P)you'll be swapping turbos out as often as you change your underwear. Good luck with that ---- because those turbos are hard enough to even see, let alone change. :3

On the otherhand, that same VW handles like no Honda I've ever rode in. I can't see a Honda taking corners like that. :S

Everybody has a Honda these days, but VW is so damn expensive and not so easy to mod. :-\ Flip a coin. :S
