got some questions/opinions on used bike..
 

ok so i really want to get a bike this spring.
i was lookin at a new harley, but with the money i make 11 grand is outa the question.. witch sucks.

so i was lookin at a local shops website and came across a 97 GSXR 600 (3000 miles on the od) there askin $3995

bikes pretty clean and comes with new tires and full micron exhaust.

the thing is i have never bought anything new like this before.. so i have a bunch of questions to ask. you think they would come down on the price at all, or you think thats an allright deal? seems a little high for a 97 regardless of the miles.

i was lookin to put like 1500 down maybe 2000. but the thing is i have no credit card, i dont do that check bullshit.. i was woundering if i could just come in monthly to there shop and just pay them, but i guess thats a question i really need to ask them.

also whats like the standard fee on registration/plates and that kinda ----? or do they do all that ---- for you at the dealer?

but i guess the big question is how much do you guys pay insurance wise (i know it will be different for every state, just need a ball park figure).. i'll probly just have it insured for like 4 months anyway.

anyway what you guys think? good deal or no?

if they have a buy here pay here type of financing then i dont see why you couldnt walk in the shop and pay for it. im sure being under 25 and a sports bike wouldnt be the cheapest on insureance but i guess that depends on who you have.. i would pick it up.. looks good

That seems like a decent deal for the miles but I've never purchased one either, although I'd like to this spring/summer.

Most of the questions you asked, we won't be able to answer.

If they'll come down on the price and if they'll let you walk in to make payments depends on the place you buy it from.

Plates and registration will depend on your state, you can probably just find your state DMV's website and I'm sure the fees will be on there.

Insurance, you can get quotes online. There's too many factors for someone here to give you an accurate estimate.

That looks like a nice ride and the price isnt to bad

.vary tru about insureance mine went from $350 a year with my ninja 500 to $1000 with my new bike! but I dont think you will have such a high rate with a 600cc bike.

I bought my 98 F3 with less than a thousand miles on it for $3200. But buying it from a shop is going to cost a bit more so that price sounds about right. I am 21 and my insurance is about $10 per month. Just liability though.

registration and plates (in PA at least) are like $35.00 so you shouldn't be paying anymore than $50. 00 3000 miles are low for that bike so that price isn't unreasonable. Everyone comes down on the price if you haggle right.


For insurance, State Farm is your best bet but you need to have your car insured through them too. For my GSXR I was getting insurance quotes around $3500 a year from progressive, esurance and all those other companies. That with me being over 25, paid off bike and a perfect driving record. State farm gave me a price of $377 a year for full coverage for my 750

that's a horrible price, my 05 636 cost the same. That bike is worth no more than 2.5k get an 01+ so you'll have fuel injection over carbs

the SRAD gsxrs are heavy bikes, my 97 gsxr 750 barely keeps up with my buddy's stock 2002 gsxr 600 and my bike has been jetted and has a full exhaust. I would look for something a little newer, you will be happier just my 2 cents.

i think its a resonable price, maybe a little high. that bike won't be nearly as fast as the new 600s but it'll scoooooot along well. but you'll have everything else thats important like hanlding brakes suspension, etc...

the FI is nice though old carb'd bikes are a PITA if you have to change anything and don't have the right tuning tools.

i say get it and fun a lot of fun.

i just bought another cheap bike for this season, its a fj1100 one of the fastest superbikes of the 80s :8

wasn't running, paid 1k for it cleaned it up did a tune up starts up runs perfect

mid 10s at about 130.

its pretty ------- fast i raced an unknown size newer GSXR and pulled him so hard it was amazing for such a old bike.

riding a streetbike is one of the most fun things to do imo

A newer GSXR 600 has more HP and are over 200 lbs lighter than that bike. You probably raced a newer Ninja 250.

only the brand new ones 06+ i believe (could be wrong) are that fast.

Even the Y2K GSXR 600's have 100whp which is around the same as that fj and they are over 200 lbs lighter. :-\

it looked like yours kinda except the exhaust was different. at any rate i raped him hard but i do have a broad usable powerband unlike the high peak hp GSXR 8)

oh and i forgot... my fj has header, exhaust, cone filters... and obviously re-jetted etc 8) prob good for a few hp

this is a 05, if he doesn't have it right in the peak power he's gunna lose 8)

overall noel, bike is a solid choice my buddy has one, its cool, not overly fast but a good first bike if u were to get a crotch rocket

the fj1100 is i believe the 2nd fastest bike made in the 80s 8)

only the GSXR1000 was faster and that was in 89

An 05' has 105whp which is probably more than your 25 year old engine even though you put on an air filter which is good for an extra 300hp. :


You really do live in fantasy land. Here in reality, something that is lighter and has more power is faster. Torque is bullshit. If torque mattered we'd all be racing diesels. So I guess if money were on the line you would bet on a tractor trailer beating a turbo Supra in a highway race becuase the torque is just going to own the peaky HP. :-\

wow talk about dense.

i have a very wide powerband. its not hard for me to find a RPM where i can start and pull hard.

im assuming his gsxr revs to 14.5k or close... and prob starts making power at 9-10k if he doesn't start there... he will get dusted so ------- hard... you could stick that 600 at 5k in any gear and it'll bog like a mother fucker.

if he doesn't put it right in the powerband, he'll get toasted on a normal informal highway race 60ish to 120ish

if he puts it right at its peak power he'll win. obviously since the bike is lighter and makes more PEAK hp (for about 3k rpms way way way up top)

same reason 1200 PEAK hp poopras run 12 flat. and this is also the same reason people run new R6s 12s @ almost 140mph.... they launch it at 9k and it STILL BOGGGSSSSSSSSSSS.

Also, dont buy that bike, at the very least get a 01 f4i, get something feul injected. Carbs suck. I'd say go with a 750. I've had my 636 for about 3 months and i've already geared it because i feel its not fast enough, and the 636 has more or equal hp than the newer 600's because it has 36 extra cc. Go with a 750, ---- it get a 1000.

yeap, and he'll rap it out in a instant and not move anywhere, then have to shift, at start at bottom of powerband. all the while i've pulled about 5 lengths 8)

get a fuel injected bike. as everyone's been saying, carbed bikes are a pain in the ass. a 600 should do it for you, be patient, you'll find a good deal.
