Goddamn union people.

One of my friends is a "pipe fitter" or whatever. He's in a union and gets paid a shitload of money, has tons of benefits, bonuses all the time etc. Never went to school or anything.

I seriously think I should have taken up a trade rather then invest all that money in my college education. I'll be paying off my student loans for a long long time. Or maybe I just need to find a new job. That's probably more like it.

Until the company goes out of business because they're paying too much for their labor. I.E. gm, ford, every airline in the industry that's union. You can only manipulate the price of a commodity for so long before it comes back on you.

Thats why I left the union and Cali. in 04. When I joined the IBEW locan in S.D in 98 the hourly rate was at the same payscale from 14 years before. 14 years earlyer people got a big paycut because the industry couldnt suport the high labor cost. In 04 it was about ta happen again. I dont know if it did or didnt but I wasnt about to find out the hard way

I guess it depends on where you live.Im in Canada and we are brutally short of tradesmen.You can basically pick where you work and what you want to do and they have no choice.Every kid these days goes to college to take marketing and make 40K a year so there are no tradesmen left.We might have to start bringing in tradesmen in from Korea as construction projects are getting delayed due to no labour available.If it continues to get worse it may start to hamper the economy as it cant grow without the labour pool to support it

Western Canada the oil and gas industry is paying 40-45 a hour for electricians all the overtime you want at 1.5 times base rate. You can work 16 hours a day 7 days a week.What alot of guys do is go work 12 hour days 6 days a week for 4-6 months a year and take the rest of the year off
