gonna be tough to fit *EVEN more pics!*

this is my intercooler core(26x12x3 from james). without endtanks yet. :P i ordered two of these- actually i wanted one of the 22x9x3's but they didn't have any so i am waiting on another one just like this one. i thought it would fit no problem, but i'm going to have to cut out the bar that runs across at the bottom and hang it out low. i really don't want to modify the inside of my bumper. i will probably weld in some square tube across to replace what i cut out of the frame- just move it ahead so there is something there to protect the bottom of the intercooler besides the plastic of the bumper. i'll make it work somehow it is just going to be a pita.

that thing is nuts :D

owned by your own ambition. It will make a great intercooler, just a bitch to get up in there.

Re: gonna be tough to fit

yeah i know. it weighs a lot more than i thought it would too. 17lbs! i think a tube and fin would have been much lighter.

holly ---- that fuckers huge :o

so what kinds numbers are you lookin to hit with the rex?

Re: gonna be tough to fit

Worst case you have to cut it down some.

Ravage70 04-30-2005 07:35 AM

Re: gonna be tough to fit

the point of bar and plate is that they can be smaller than tube and fin and equal if not more effective

cut it in half and sell the 3 intercoolers ull be left with (3 cuz u said ur getting another core) ;)

Aaron, that Ebay radiator actually looks like it fits well. I think I'm gonna buy one. Any issues with it? (sorry to thread jack)

yes, it sits far to high. i had to make custom mounts for it on my hm crossmember. i also had to add a mount on the bottom of the rad so it would clear my rod end on the crossmember...

there will be no cutting of cores! i want to keep it the way it is.

it is a good idea to cut the core, but i can make it fit, i just have to cut the cross piece at the bottom out and weld something in that extends out about 2 inches to clear the ic.

thanks for the compliment. i take a great deal of pride in the stuff i do and try to carry that over to my products. if someone comes over to my place and they show me their setup and what they want to fix or something, i go over everything and tell them that i can help them out. i want to help people. i just wish i had more time. i'm thinking that perhaps in the next year or so i will be offering services local to help with custom fab work. i'm planning on putting a cnc machine in my garage. ;D

all that to fit a intercooler in thats why i just went with a jrc 6 in took 1 minute to mount but that thing is huge

Re: gonna be tough to fit *more pics*

ok, try and fit this one. i welded this up for someone on the weekend. it isn't very pretty, but the core is bar and plate and should flow nicely i think.

aaron you and i both know, gotta have dem overkill intercoolers.

mine is roughly 4x bigger than i need, but i love it. nothing like 7 cubic yards of cooling space...hjahahaha

Re: gonna be tough to fit *more pics*

i had the car pretty much shaved when i had it painted about 6 years ago- front corner lenses, door handles, washer nozzles. i got the hood this week. 13 pounds of carbon fiber goodness. the stock hood was 34! i'll post some more pics once i get the car out of the garage and the setup complete. i'll start a new post. hopefully it will be in the next couple weeks because i have to move and i don't want to have to tow the car.

My freind is fabbing a sqare tube bumper support right now to fit his JRC intercooler in a CRX. I can take some picts. Basically ~42" of 1.5x3/16 square tubing and then ~6" angled wings.

Nice work Aaron! so with the chopping of that peice in the front and you now using your HM traction bars is it still gonna drive the same? or will it affect the way it drives/feels on the road?

I only ask cause i have thought about chopping that piece of my car adn doing away with the OEM crossmember and in its place would be something similar what you built.

your inlighting words would hel me better undestand what i am doing.

i had to replace it with something so i had something for my intercooler to bolt to. i could have probably used the hcm to hold the ic in place, but i wanted something at the bottom of my bumper rather than just the piece of plastic. as for effecting driveability, i'm not sure. i know the wheel hop will be gone. this was just a replacement for the older style hcm i made last year. this one is a bit lighter and takes up less room. i finished my manifold today, i'll post pics of it later.

Why can't I get something like that when I try to get all custom.

Mine just turns into half assed JB weld blobs and some self taping screws shot through everything.

actually, there will be a piece of flat bar welded to the bottom of the intercooler core and that will line up with the holes in the front of the cross bar. the bottom row on the ic will be blocked by the bar.
