going to japan...

I hope im not jinx'n myself....

but I just went and talked to the "career planner" and she said, me going, that it would be very easy to do. the hard part will be gettin my job changed. I guess, if nothing else, i will keep my job as a radio operator (im the guy with the radio on my back, with the antenna in all of the movies) anyways, she said it could be done easily.
I have an appointment tommorow at 11:30 to "submit my package" and once that gets approved, then i will recieve orders and everything will go from there....

but everything looks really really positive right now. ;D

Re:going to japan...

my wife and i are really really excited about going.

-she wants a land cruiser or a 4 runner. we want to out fit it with GPS and a roof rack, and all that good ----, and tour japan with it...go wonder the moutains...camp, hike, take lots of pictures...

-i want either a eg or a R32 or a silvia. whichever I find first. ;D

...and homemadeturbo.com will see the wealth. once i get there, and get all settled in and ----....watch the classifides 8)

from what ive been told by alot of people, "rare" jdm parts found in the U.S. are considered junk in Japan.

to give you an idea...
while stationed in japan, tommytoes(a user who never posts) bought his complete B16 swap, with lsd for $500 and the junkyard he got it from thought he was nuts for giving them that much $$ for the engine

i heard that what we find to be very special over here,is bullshit to them. i heard they idolize vipers and vettes over there

I would imagine so. I couldn't see them being big into the whole "JDM" craze. If I lived in the land of 4-bangers than I would think American musclecars are badass

SkunT 11-15-2004 11:14 AM

Re:going to japan...

look at it this way...

we throw away or throw in the junkyard an old 350 right...or it can be purchased for really cheap in a junkyard....

well...in japan for them the B16 or sr20det or rb26 is is there 350.

plus...once a car reasches 30K miles they have to pay a tax on the car. the tax is usally around $2,000 so the japs say ---- it, just get a new car, and the perfectly good car goes to the junkyard. this is how it is intended, how the japanese economy is set up. and it works.

kinda hard to explain over the net.

and JDM craze, its not called jdm in japan, its the way it is.kinda like usdm, its just the way it is here.
we try to accomplish what they do over there.

and also, if you arent running 12sec in a 1/4 mile in japan, your car isnt ----. ;)

and whitey:
13sec around here is fast.

and ibby:
you can come visit me in japan, buy your car, and then take it home with you.
as long as you have it set up with a registered importer in the states, customs will not give you any ----...
yes, its that easy. (not that easy but you get what im sayin)

anyone can come visit me and take home whatever they want. :-*

how much do you think it would cost to ship a b16 swap here? if you can get the swap for $500 or less like ive heard it should be cheaper than buying it from an importer over here

Says who?? This kind of mentality is what gives imports bad names. :-\ 13's are not fast.

12's are quick
11's are respect
10's are fast

even if i could get a b16 for $1000 shipped, it would be cheaper. ;) the down side, i would have th break the motor down and ship it that way. :-\

someone i worked with said, "since I love the import cars so much, i will make a killing fixing peoples cars on the weekends because no one trusts someone who they cant relay with when working on there car" -makes sense.

i agree with whitey.

but low 13s is quick,
12s are fast
11s are respect
10s are crazy
anything lower is sexual

No it doesn't. Fast is fast.

projekteg 11-15-2004 01:32 PM

Re:going to japan...

a 12 second daily driven street car is pretty fast, a 12 second race car is pretty slow, yes, it does make a bit of difference.

Save all the wrx parts you can get for me, and we'll be alright ;) ;)

It looks like a good oportunity for you and your wife. Is not forever, if you don't like it you can come back in a few years. I'm sure you will like it.

as mentioned before, after my wife and i get settled in, the wealth will be ------. ;)

keep in mind, japan is one of the most highly populated areas( ???)-with LOTS of cars, and there is 1 military base there and 1 in the mainland with americans on it. only the few americans who love the JDM parts will roam the junkyards filled with all of those lovely parts.
get my point...
you guys will be hooked up. ;)
