going from a honda 1.5L to a chevy 5.7l?

Hey guys I'm thinking about getting a chevy v8 to test my fuel system out on. I figured I might as well get a old truck since I could use it to haul crap around and they are cheap around here. Im sure some of you guys have some insight on some older trucks. I'm looking at some mid 1980 swb trucks. Most have had the engine replaced and the dealer told me that you cant tell the difference from a 350 from 305 without pulling the motor. (sounds like BS to me). When buying a truck that old what should I look for? Of course this truck will be converted to fuel injection and electronic ignition using my system then it will be turboed.

Thanks
Nick

Might as well put a 1.5L in a truck too :P

350 ownes a 305 huge difference, get a p/u with a 350/350 combo. I wouldnt bother with a 305. Older silverado's had a 350 f/i 4 bolt main block and would be the perfect turbo project. :y

hard to tell a 305 from a 350 just be looking at it if someone has modified it...

not many full sized trucks came with 305s

checking casting numbers to see what is accually in there might be a good idea.
truck motors often have good heads too.

Don't worry about 2 or 4 bolt mains, doesn't make any difference.

you can tell the difference between a 305 and a 350 by the dipstick location they are opposite of eachother

Lingerfelter was asked once, early in his career when he'd started making his name but hadn't become $$$$ yet, if he had any problem finding enough 4 bolt blocks. "No problem at all. I don't use them."

300 > 302 > 350 > 305

4bolt is weaker unless the extra 2 bolts are angled in...

Not on the later model trucks (88 up) they where all passenger side. The only true way to tell is run the casting numbers ether the rear ones or the one under the alt. You cant go by what the person says because I have a 79 4x4 gmc that was supposed to have a 350 in it and it had a wonderful 267 out of a later model nova :S my d15b1 makes more hp than that thing and it was trying to move a 4700lb truck around lol.

Exactly, Bone.

The rest of the quote was, he was asked if he had a problem finding enough forged steel cranks, "I didn't use those either." But nobody here wants to hear that, 4-bolt daaawwgg!!!11

all the small blocks in trucks and performance engines (camaro/firebird/chevelle/etc) came with forged steel its not like they are hard to find 8)

i bet back then lingenfelter didnt make 2000+hp street cars like they do today

hence the cast iron cranks were good enough

Re: going from a honda 1.5L to a chevy 5.7l?

didn't need 2000 hp street cars, all they do is smokey burnouts.

Build a SB2 C4 Vette, it'll do 225, change the rear gear and then it'll run 9's-10's on 650 hp.

I bought a 99 silverado with the vortec 5.7 and I love it. Gets up and goes, it has 3.73 in the rear end and gets 18 mpg. Much better than a f150 in my opnion.
