Auto parts and components can be sourced around the globe and among those automakers counted as import brands are those currently owned by Ford, such as Volvo, Land Rover and Jaguar, as well as Saab, a unit of GM[/img]

thats exactly what ive been saying. for the most part there ARE NO true imports and domestics.

Ferrari is still an import. Most of the M series BMW's. Lamborghini, Bugatti, Aston/Jaguar now that they are no longer majority-owned by Ford. Lotta the Euro stuff is still imported. And technically, I consider the GTO at least a partial import. But that just makes the whole argument confusing.

Anyone who says that one country/region makes better cars than all other countries/regions is an idiot. Cars should be assessed and appraised on an individual basis, accounting for how well the car meets it's design goals. This argument of domestics vs. imports comparing DSM's to Corvettes is the stupidest waste of internet space I've ever had the misfortune of reading.

This thread sucks.

You're right. The arugement should be dumbestic based companies vs international companies. Where the cars are actually manufactured is of little significants. The real issue is in the manufacturer's quality controls and their approach to business. On which the dumbestic based companies are sorely behind the rest of the world.

This thread sucks.

Then GTFO and don't read it. No one is forcing you. The only thing gayer than an import vs dumbestic debate is the retard that willingly spent two hours reading through it and proceeds to bitch about it.

The arguement isn't even about import vs dumbestic. It's about showing a clueless idiot how truely clueless he is.

No kidding, but you're the one using one month sales figures to say how amazing GM is in spite of last YEAR'S sales figures. So you basically just shot yourself in the foot.

If it takes you two hours to read through this one thread, you should not criticize the intelligence of others.

Camaro is extremely quick, difficult to keep straight.. And this is only with the 100~ shot. 2 step colder plugs go in tomorrow, and hopefully a tune for it soon so I can run the 150 shot. I'll get the "holeshot from hell" as JD puts it.

man, awdstyles has been working hard here. sucks when a bunch of ppl team up and attack one person. good on you for putting in the hard yards.

as for the thread sucking, i cant help but agree. the point of the thread was to rile me up after a series of pms between me and random here. he got a little riled up after i privately questioned his car handling better than an s2k as he hinted at in another thread (i forget where). as i informed him that my skyline pulls 1g on road rubber and 1.1 on street legal semi slick race rubber and that i had been in a mitsi mirage 8500rpm 1.6l mivec stripped hatch that pulled 1.2 on older crappier tyres (next model down from mine) he started to change the subject to hp and torque and value etc...

so he posted this. the point and subject of this thread was to hook me in and argue CC > cams/valves

as soon as i left to scotland on thursday night uk time, the thread lost its point, however it was good to see someone upholding the intelligent side of the argument in my absence.

hows about we get back to the point :

as far as overall vehicle balance goes at lower dollars in the second hand market, turbo + jap = fast round a track. you just cant argue that.

at some point in this discussion it was stated that there was nothing close to as fast as a z06 round a track for the dollars.

that was infact incorrect. the evo 8 was almost up there, on 2/7 the capacity and at XX thousand less dollars off the lot.

also mazda won lemans with the rota box car a few times.

the binary number was most likely signed and without its sign bit.

and a few other pointless things.

there was a v8 falcon at taupo one of the times i went in my 2l non turbo gutless wonder 16s skyline. according to the owner it would do a mid 14 or so. round the track, he past me on the straight and got to the end when i was half way, but by the time we got back to the straight, i was ahead again... that tells the story pretty well really. every time i braked and turned in, he lagged behind badly.

drag strips are not a good place to judge the overall picture of what a car is and more hp != faster round a track (thats not oval or round and has 10+ corners).

why stick up for gms build quality and company practices when they are about to ---- themselves?

there is just no point at all.

I didn't realize this thread was random-idiot vs AWDstylez: the great comparison of who is the better person. I thought it was about how badly GM sucks at making a decent vehicle. I'm still waiting for you to address the issue of resale value and explain why the world's best car manufacturer (in your opinion only) has one of those worst resale values in the industry, right down there with Kia and Daewoo (which doesn't even exist anymore). All these other crap is just smoke and mirrors. Ask a relevant question and you'll get an answer. Keep trying to side track the issue and I'll just keep laughing.

the resale value is low because they are cheap cars plain and simple. wether you want to believe it or not inital price has an effect on resale value and depreciation even if it is a percent of the inital value.

a more expensive car and/or rare will always hold its value better.

check the price on corvettes lately? they seem to hold their value pretty well 8) except the zr1 considering it was very overpriced to begin with....

1974 shitbox smog motor 240hp are worth nearly what they sold for initially...

1988 corvette - 34% of original value
1988 toyota supra - 20.4% of original value
1988 rx7 - 27% of original value
1988 honda civic - 23% of original value
1988 camaro z28 - 22% of original value

2001 civic LX - 67% of original value
2001 camaro z28 - 53% of original value
2001 integra LS - 50.1% of original value
2001 nissan altima - 48% of original value
2001 chevy malibu - 37% of original value :(

yea that guy is so lucky he has a shitty NA base model skyline which is the honda civic of japan.

any car can take a corner well at very slow speeds

I love how you pull random numbers and facts out of your ass. Even better is the cars you select to compare. 1988 what? Those cars are all rusted out piles of dust and ash at this point, who cares what they're worth. You even just proved youself wrong by showing that a Civic depreciates less than a far more expensive and far more rare Camaro.

2007 Civic LX coupe
Initial Price: $16,690

Depreciation per year:
Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 5-yr Total
$3,204 $1,656 $1,458 $1,292 $1,160 $8,770

Also of interesting note, Repair cost averages:
Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 5-yr Total
$0 $0 $94 $226 $330 $650

2007 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS
Initial Price: $27,740 (over $10,000 more than the Civic, so by your logic it should have significantly less depreciation)

Depreciation per year:
Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 5-yr Total
$8,890 $2,461 $2,166 $1,919 $1,723 $17,159

Wow that's some sweet value holding it's got. That's a special model too. Yea, those definately hold value like no other.

Average repair costs per year:
Year 1 Year 2 Year 3 Year 4 Year 5 5-yr Total
$0 $0 $109 $258 $376 $743

Yea you definately got me there. Those dumbestics only suffer massive value loss because they're cheap to being with. ::) Amazing how a RARE special edition Monte Carlo depreciates compared to a lame, dime-a-dozen Civic LX.

J-SMITH69 09-05-2007 06:20 PM

Re: this is funny...

those numbers are not pulled out of my ass.

they are from autos.msn.com

your numbers are projected??? did you make them up??? did you design that depreciation model yourself? whats your algorithm???

the numbers i posted are real, and current. comparing kelly blue book values against retail price when they were new.

your numbers = projections. nothing real about it.

there are exceptions to the rule. but most of the time expensive cars hold their value better than cheap ones no matter what make/model they are.

My numbers are from Edmunds, doesn't get much more subjective or reliable than that.

Projections? Nothing real about it? Are you familar with leases? Obviously not. Do you know that the buy out amount (residual value) at the end of a lease is predetermined based on the vehicle's set depreciation value? Obviously not. Do you realize that those numbers are the same numbers used to determine vehicle value at the end of a lease term and show actual depreciation? Obviously not.

You're looking dumber and dumber the longer this goes on.

The correct way to state that is: Quality cars (which usually cost more) depreciate less than ---- cars (which usually cost less).

The price is determined by the quality of the vehicle, which is the same thing that determines the rate of depreciation. The cost of the vehicle is a side effect of the quality that causes it to depreciate less. The higher cost is not the cause of the lower depreciation.

that said, yes, it pulls good G's at higher speeds too... idiot.

why would you say that the skyline is japans civic? i mean, where the ---- do you think the civic comes from. give me a break...

lets recap what a skyline is : 240sx + better front suspension + better looks + better engine - worse weight distribution than 200sx but not sure if its worse than the 240sx or not but probably.

ie, no need to be jealous of my slightly below middle of the range (5th fastest r32, 3rd slowest r32) skyline, just import yourself an rb25det and slap it in a 240sx for some serious fun :-)

jd/hitchhikkr/etc if you dont find this amusing, why are you reading it every day, and why do you occasionally post rather than just ignoring it and letting him let his frustrations out on some jap loving turbo fans? i'm sure we/i can handle it just fine.
