full throttle shift = powershift?

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
it's not double clutching because I only push the clutch in once. if that's double clutching then I double clutch everytime I drive anything because I always rev match even when up shifting if I shift slow.

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
WTF? you rev match when you upshift? What the hell is that going to do? Just ------- leave it at WOT or shift like normal.
Double clutching = when your downshifting in an old truck... end of story.

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
I rev match when downshifting, just quickly blip the throttle open and close it again before letting the clutch out, makes much smoother downshifts and less clutch wear.
There is a benefit to revmatching on every shift, that benefit is that the clutch has a slightly bigger chance of surviving. I really hate the feeling of doing a hard launch, then shift into second and the engine stays at 6000rpm but the wheels are sticking.

I've full throttle shifted a few times, 1st to 2nd it lights my freakin tires up tho.

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
i am gonna agree with kyle.
rev matching is pretty much used for down shifting
double clutching is pretty much for up shifting (you let the clutch out and in twice ((double clutching)) unlike rev matching where is only once)
there really isn't a point for double clutching, it was only really used when trannys didn't have syncros.

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
the funny part about that guy agreeing with me is that that's not what I said.
when your revs drop down to idle because you take your sweet *** time up shifting you too can benfit from rev matching that bitch.

Re:full throttle shift = powershift?
ok.
double clutching is something that is almost always done only when downshifting. it's a method of spinning up the intermediate shaft to match the gear to save wear on the synchros. This doesn't make sense upshifting because the intermediate shaft slows down on it's own when you shift from 2-N-3.
Most people don't dbl clutch any more and just let the synchros spin up the intermediate shaft. Rather they just clutch once and match the speed of the engine (as opposed to matching the engine+intermediate shaft when dbl clutching).
However, usu. the synchros are not good enough to spin up a dead intermediate shaft to match first gear going 30mph. The shifter usu. only slips into first nicely once the car has slowed to about 5mph (slow enough for the synchros to work). If you really want to downshift to first going 30mph, AND the car has been in neutral a while (dead intermediate shaft), you have to double clutch to spin the shaft up. Well, actually you'd only be doing the last "clutch" of the dbl clutch since it's in neutral already. That's probably the only time you'd use it in real life. Other than that, heel-toe downshifting is adequate for modern synchros.
