Re:Finally went to the doctor
I dont blame our "Health Care System".....which is non-existant btw.
I blame the fact that a few insurance companies hold us all by the friggen *****. Doctors get paid by the 5-6 health insurance companies around here. and their is no competition. An insurance company forces you to see a certain list of doctors, and doctors are garanteed pay by the companies....
That gives you an overpriced imbecile that is controled by an even larger group of imbeciles worried about turning a large profit.
The TRUE American (ie an OPEN MARKET) way would give you an open choice, and allow competition between both doctors and insurance plans. Competing doctors would lower rates/increase service, or be looking for anouther job. but as it stands now, a doctor gets paid whatever XXX provider has agreed upon whether he helps you or not....
That is actually more socialist then the Canadian plans...which just do away with insurance plans all together
What really chaps my hide and gets me fired up are the Damn Striking nurses in WA state...striking because Group Health (Health Bene provider) wanted to up the CoPay plan a bit and add 100$ a month for insurance. They Bitched like hell and had a strike about that, and in the end now they pay 20$ for a doctor visit and such
...and the cost is passed on to private holders like my father...who would have to pay 400$ a month for $1000 deductable insurance that is worth nothing, and have to pay over 100$ just to see a freaking doctor that doesnt give a **** because he gets a check no mater what
TO ALL THOSE NURSES EAT ---- AND DIE Open your freaking eyes and pull your selfish heads out of your ***

Re:Finally went to the doctor
Wow quite a few of you have had bad experiences with the doctor I see.
Anyhow, my advice to the original poster 351wstanggt is if you feel that your family doctor did not do a thorough enough job then go to another doctor for a second opinion. You could coughing for numerous reasons but serious complications can arise from your bronchitis. Last thing you want to happen is to develop pneumonia and end up staying in the hospital for a week, which will cost you anywhere from $3500-5000 per day.
You may have allergies but if you know its not allergies try another doctor. Chances are you probably just have a viral infection of your large airways. Antibiotics such as Ciprofloxacin, Erythromycin, Amoxicillin, Penicillin, etc. wont do crap for you. Antibiotics are only good for bacteria infections. Viral infections, in general, will just takes its course whether it be 1 week or a few weeks. What you have to do is mostly just treat the symptoms such as your coughing or post-tussive emesis (aka coughing so much that you puke). Try some cough syrup or Nyquil to help you sleep better at night and live better during the day.
I can't over-emphasize the importance to get a second opinion if you feel that your doctor has not done a thorough job examining you. A chest x-ray never hurts and is only $50-75.
I'm not even going to enter the realm of discussing the non-existant health care system in the United States let alone the managed care companies that run the show and swallow the profit. In my opinion, most (not all) doctors work pretty damn hard for their money... but thats my opinion.
