finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
Well, after going into a lot of work I finally got my stuff together and built a turbo kit!
Car is honda civic 1997, 4 doors :6 b18b engine running on 450's with uberdata (im still into tuning with the wideband right now!!!) Turbo XS BoV Garrett T3 0.48/0.60 turbo, freshly rebuilt!!!! 2.5'' piping, downpipe and exhaust, straight pipe with flexible 28" (With tanks) , 6''X2.75'' intercooler stainless steel down pipe (had to mention that :8 ) this thing pulls real nice.... it's at 7psi right now with internal WG but when I get all the tuning done, it will be at 10psi for now, it still runs pig rich... but hey... better rich then lean ;) NOW the interesting part... PICS! sorry, I have not cleaned the car yet.... but it looks like that right now! hope y'all enjoy it!: http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_42_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_44_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_45_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_46_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_47_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_48_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_49_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_50_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_51_full.jpg http://memimage.cardomain.net/member...43_43_full.jpg by the way, some of the pics were taken with the hood latch released but the hood down... just to let y'all know that my car doesn't have those major fitting problems it looks like it has! anyways! comments...? |

so does the BOV close to the turbo actually makes it louder... or is there another difference? For the oil return.... me and my friend actually argued about that before installing it... I said it had to be higher possible and he said it didn't mather (he has built many turbo setups in the past) With the gravity, I think that logically the oil will go down the oil return hose and it won't go back to the turbo... so what's wrong with it? :-\ |
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
the oil line IS to low no matter what your friend says ..... needs to be higher up on the pan ..
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
that's a nice ass set up. the oil return does look pretty low. love the DP.
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
if the pa has oil in it above the hole where you have for the return, gravity ain't gonna force more oil in, the oil is gonna go in the tube. why stay at more dense area when there is a spot for less density.

Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
Very clean in and out. Not really my style with the copper and all, but nice none the less. The bay is VERY clean/nice. Very nice set-up. There's no "horn" on the RFL? My does, and some eGay knock-offs have 2 (mine is a knock off, but still). Good job!!! ;) ;D

Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
so now what do I do with that oil return?
get a new oil pan and start it over? or should I just cover that hole and move it up? or just leave it like that? ??? |
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
looks clean and oh yeah your missing a rim ;)
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
cut it off n weld or screw n glue a plate to block it, or if u want it to look pretty... get another pan. it needs to be as high as possible with no kinks. if it really "didn't matter" dont you think stock cars would come like that? most factory cars drain to mid-block then drip to the pan with "gravity"
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
That is pretty low, the oil may be backing up into your turbo...Id take it off plug the hole and make a new higher one. You want it free flowing right above where the oil sits, you should be able to see an oil line in the pan when its off.
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
if you wanna test the free flowing, pull off ur oil return while the car is sitting on the ground from the pan, if it pours out, its to low ::)

Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
Easiest way to figure out where the oil return should go... take off the pan and put the dipstick in. Look at the level of the dipstick. While running the oil level will be about 1.5l below the full mark. For you Americans that's probably about 2 quarts. The harm is not necessarily the oil backing up but it's aereating your oil. Don't want the oil pump picking up and distributing bubbles.

Get some times of that badass setup. |
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
cut out a square from the oiol pan with the drain fitting being at the bottom of the square. turn the square upside down weld it back in and the fitting is now higher
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
pm me if you want another oil pan i have a untapped one in my garage

Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
Well you could always just run like 2 quarts of oil insted of fixing your pan.. that would probably solve the problem =)
I'd definatly just fix your oil pan. Cut off the fitting you have in there, then patch it with a small flat plate and weld over it. Then go to the highest point possible on the pan for your return. examples https://www.homemadeturbo.com/leia/turboek15.jpg https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_...trike/rs14.jpg |
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
Hmm I made that manifold to mount the turbo the other way but that fits nicely. Nice setup Justin. I would just get a new pan and start over.
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
how is that upper pipe attached to the compressor housing? I dont see any bolts, I'm assuming its welded eh?
|
Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
I also noticed that you used a factory Saab exhaust housing as the compressor snout.

Re: finally boosted civic! WITH PICS!
actually... as a french Im not really sure what a ''snout'' is....
im assuming your talking about the 90degree pipe that I welded at the end of the turbo..... and it was a ford pipe.... was just the right size and fitted quite well actually :-\ |
