fighting style anyone fight???
ok so im not a ----- but i aint no super big body builder or expericened fighter. im 6'2 little over 200 pounds. muscle and fat. i do work out but i dont roid or anything . we all know size doesnt matter. if anyone watchs ufc they remember royce gracie. 170 pound guy would beat up guys 270 250 ken shamrock 220. im 20 so im not really that busy . This tuesday i might be signing up to Brazilain Ju Jitsu . which is locks, takedowns, chokes, trips etc everything but striking. they say brazilain ju jitsu is the most effected style of fighting. theres no little kids in the class or anything this isnt karate. little kids want to do spin kicks and ---- this is ground fighting. take the guy down and technique takes it. anyone do anything like this before . or have any comments i still didnt sign up but its $150 a month and thats a lot. so i need some feedback on this .

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
I used to work with some UFC guys and they are all about Brazilain Ju Jitsu. 99.9% of fights end up on the ground anyways. If you only learn to strike, then it is completely useless once they get you down.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
This stuff is good, I used to do several types of martial arts, I did JKA style shotokan karate for a bit but it wasnt for me, we were taught kicks and punches and katas and useless ---- that would never help in a fight, I mean striking helps sometimes but like you said, 99% of fights end up on the ground.
I would either take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or eikido(sp) I like the idea of using the opponents mass and striking force against him, all in all it would be a good idea to know 2 or 3 styles of martial arts, get the best of everything behind your belt, but who has time for that, I say go for it, but at the same time buy some books on kick boxing and practice striking with your legs, elbows, palms of your hands and fists, nothing beats a guy coming at you and all you do is move in with one fluid move with an elbow to his face and he's DOWN for good. |

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
I do kick boxing right now, but I am thinking about going to BJJ. Where do you live? I can't find a place in my area that does BJJ- at least not with a qualified instructor. This site has a list of instructor lineage. Chances are if their is a Gracie anywhere up the list of your instructors lineage, he is the real deal. Too many places have people who claim to know what they are doing and that is a good way to learn how to get your ass kicked.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
its still nuts that a small guy like royce graice 170pounds has skill to take 250 pound k-1 kickboxer kimo in a no holds bar match

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
I want to get into something like that too. Alot of guys here are into UFC, and BJJ is real popular with them. One thing I can suggest is to be in good shape before you start training. I'm 6'3" 235#, right now I'm just too slow to be competitive with even the new guys. BTW wrestling is good too.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
Holly ----, I weigh 190 about and am 6'0", this guy must be pretty fast with good technique.

Over here they don't turn their back on you. You have to either avoid it, or be ready to throw down face to face.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
Do you want to learn the art or do you mostly just want to fight?

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
i have a friend who is a second degree black belt in tae kwon do....i've seen how he trains and its pretty damn hard core. My buddy even tried out for team USA for that past summer olympics and juss missed making the team by two spots. He made a video of him in tournaments and show him knocking guys out with one blow and its a ------ sweet move but very illigal in competition...lolz....its kinda funny cause in each scene you see him gettin cheap shot by the guy he's sparin with and then you see him fake a front punch and then procende to do a spining back hand and knock the guy out...he's amazinly fast...and he's small too, but deffinatly wouldn't want to ---- with him. he has told me tho that he has mixed like 3 martial arts styles into one when he goes to tournaments, so maybe thats why he gets DQ'd so much when he spars...lolz...i really don't know were i was going with this, but yeah go with the BJJ and then get something in there that has to do with striking so you can also stun your attacker before you get to the ground...the more styles you learn the better in my eye

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
My sister's BF wrestled, and took nationals for judo when he was in high school. I know he's done more. He's about 5'6", maybe 125# and I won't even spar with him when he's drunk off his ass. I saw him take out a guy literally twice his size (weight). I know a bunch of other guys who are shrimps, but can roll with the best of them.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
whitey knows how we get dirty, martial arts falls along the same lines as playing the flute in the school band. all the cool kids are out breakin face backwoods negro style, while your in a room makin weird noises with a stupid uniform on.
10 bucks says any of these "martial arts ------" would ---- their pants and forget all there stupid moves when bubba who is 6'7 and 345 comes at them with a broken off pool stick... |
Re: fighting style anyone fight???
I carry a firewarm 99% of the time. I'll try to avid a conflict, but if one occurs it better be 1on1 or I'm legally obvligated to plant a couple moon shadows into someone,

i'm taking tae kwon do, a lot of the things i learn are disabling moves, how to put your opponent down as efficiently as possible. fun stuff, cant wait to get into more advanced stuff. but yeah, i guess i'm focusing more on ending the fight before it gets to the ground in one or two hits

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
Ive done a little bit of Muai Thai (Thai kick boxing) which emphasizes on punches, kicks, knees and elbows. the knees and elbows can be very powerfull, I once saw a fight video where a BJJ guy took on a Muai Thai fighter, the BJJ tried to take him down and ended up taking a Knee to the face. = KO. But I think if they BJJ would have got him down he would have one NP. I also have a friend who is doing Isreal street fighiting. I honestly think its the best ive seen for self defense in street fighting. It is dirty fighting because its fighting for your life. It will show you what to do when someone per say punches at your face, or tries to grab or choke you from behind to end the fight in a few seconds. It involves punching, grappling, breaking ankles, fingers, necks, pressure points etc, and how to get into the advantage position when being attacked. There is video ive seen of this its pretty awesome, shouldnt be too hard to find.

Re: fighting style anyone fight???
I've been fighting all my life. My father taught me how to fight from boxing, akido, jeet kun do, wrestling, you name it. One of the many reason why my name is BlackDragon. ;)
Size really dont matter. I have thrown many guys around twice my size. Im only 5'9 195-200. But if your strong you'll be alright. |
