fighting style anyone fight???

ok so im not a ----- but i aint no super big body builder or expericened fighter. im 6'2 little over 200 pounds. muscle and fat. i do work out but i dont roid or anything . we all know size doesnt matter. if anyone watchs ufc they remember royce gracie. 170 pound guy would beat up guys 270 250 ken shamrock 220. im 20 so im not really that busy . This tuesday i might be signing up to Brazilain Ju Jitsu . which is locks, takedowns, chokes, trips etc everything but striking. they say brazilain ju jitsu is the most effected style of fighting. theres no little kids in the class or anything this isnt karate. little kids want to do spin kicks and ---- this is ground fighting. take the guy down and technique takes it. anyone do anything like this before . or have any comments i still didnt sign up but its $150 a month and thats a lot. so i need some feedback on this .

I used to work with some UFC guys and they are all about Brazilain Ju Jitsu. 99.9% of fights end up on the ground anyways. If you only learn to strike, then it is completely useless once they get you down.

This stuff is good, I used to do several types of martial arts, I did JKA style shotokan karate for a bit but it wasnt for me, we were taught kicks and punches and katas and useless ---- that would never help in a fight, I mean striking helps sometimes but like you said, 99% of fights end up on the ground.

I would either take Brazilian Jiu Jitsu or eikido(sp) I like the idea of using the opponents mass and striking force against him, all in all it would be a good idea to know 2 or 3 styles of martial arts, get the best of everything behind your belt, but who has time for that, I say go for it, but at the same time buy some books on kick boxing and practice striking with your legs, elbows, palms of your hands and fists, nothing beats a guy coming at you and all you do is move in with one fluid move with an elbow to his face and he's DOWN for good.

I do kick boxing right now, but I am thinking about going to BJJ. Where do you live? I can't find a place in my area that does BJJ- at least not with a qualified instructor. This site has a list of instructor lineage. Chances are if their is a Gracie anywhere up the list of your instructors lineage, he is the real deal. Too many places have people who claim to know what they are doing and that is a good way to learn how to get your ass kicked.

You could try looking here for help.

I want to get into something like that too. Alot of guys here are into UFC, and BJJ is real popular with them. One thing I can suggest is to be in good shape before you start training. I'm 6'3" 235#, right now I'm just too slow to be competitive with even the new guys. BTW wrestling is good too.
