Failed Emissions, need help
The Car: 1990 CRX HF
The Engine: non turbo D15B??? JDM maybe? I know its not the original motor. The Results: acceptable my results Hydrocarbons (HC) 1.00 1.73 Carbon Monoxides (CO) 12.00 53.79!!! Nitrogen Oxides (NOX) 2.50 0.22 Gas Cap Test FAILED Pressure Test PASSED The technician told me that my results would inprove if I got the gas cap replaced to where it passes. As you can see my biggest problem is in the carbon monoxide area, any clues why there so high? I bough a new Catalytic just for the emissions run and still I failed. I do a routine tune up every 3 month's. But I admit I havent changed the following items in over 2 1/2 years. Any advise is greatly appreciated. Distributor Cap Ignition Wires Fuel Filter |

Re:Faild Emissions, need help
have you done anything with it for tuning? chiped ecu, afc, anything like that? the numbers tell me it's running rich. lean will cause more nox, rich more of the other ----.

Re:Failed Emissions, need help
How many miles are on the engine, my teacher once told me that he would spray water into the throttle body with a squirt bottle(while engine was running) about a gallon of water total in order to help cars pass. It clears all the ---- out of them also check your timing and anything spark or fuel related

Re:Failed Emissions, need help
go to home depot and get 2 gallons of denatured alcohol and then put them in with a full tank of gas. this will really lean everything out. i failed once and then did this and it went through with no problems. the cheapest way to do it too. about $15.00.

what I did to pass emissions: dropped the whole exhaust, put a turbo on, I run open turbo, it's probably rich as ---- running on a base map, and I like the bov noise. I passed with all perfects, I even did a cool fatality. no emmisions pwnz you. |

I kind of want to correct the problem, not just get around it. |
Re:Failed Emissions, need help
....or you could run it down to about 1/8 tank, buy 4 bottles of heet and throw it in there. Cheaper than $15.00. Passed by buddy's 82 mercury zephyr. ;)

Re:Failed Emissions, need help
was the car driven for 30+ minutes before you went and got it tested?

Re:Failed Emissions, need help
some rx7 guys do this. put some rubbing alcahol in your gas tank. my friend did that and it passed. maybee your timing is messed up. it was the timing on the rx7 and we fixed that and put alchahol and it passed well below what was needed.

Re:Failed Emissions, need help
I had like 17 times the legal limit of CO when I got my old ass Audi tested, and theres was no way I could afford to spend $350 on it to get a waiver, so I just went to a smog place I knew was hella crooked and they just typed my VIN in and put the sniffer into a Lexus they had in the shop. So my car was still way over, but thats not what the certificate said ;D They just added $20 to the normal smog test fee and called it good.
