Um, say you're an oil company. The US government won't allow you to drill or build anymore refineries, so the money you would have spent on that isn't being spent. It's profit. As the oil company, your business is oil, not finding alternative fuels to KILL YOUR OWN BUSINESS. lol. If there was any money in alternative fuels, they'd be there, but there isn't. They sell just as much gas to farmers making ethanol as they would if ethanol wasn't in the picture.

You shouldn't be mad at the record profits they're making as much as the unreported environmental damage that goes on. Not the best statement to say given 90% of you run open downpipes

No Stevemode I didn't mean they would develope something like a hydrogen engine or something where all you need is water. I meant they spend the tax break cash on looking for new oil deposits and and like more efficiant ways of geting it.
that would be like you developing a turbo that doesn't need oil.

gas/oil companies make aprox 3 cents of profit per gallon.
the government makes on average 50 cents profit per gallon!
the companies take all the risk, the government takes all the money!
a gallon was cheaper than a gallon of milk for a very long time! and it comes from halfway acrossed the world! evil milk companies!
the government breaks its own record profit every year and rawr loves it!
