Vert shaft? All I have are a 12hp and 11hp flathead. I've heard putting the 11hp head on the 12 boost compression enough to make it a 14 or so hp. Everything I have is flathead briggs. OHV is where it's at nowadays, but I want to go away from Briggs. Everything Briggs uses in their engines is junk. The rods in the fladheads have no bearings, the rods sit on the crank directly. The aluminum the rods are made from is so shitty you can see bubbles and pits in it.

yeah, 11 or 12hp will work. i in-house all of my motors to around 18+ with $5 in material cost so i can't complain. fluxcore cam regrinds ftw!

My brother in law had a cam made for his opposed. He had a fat alky carb, port work, shaved heads, everything you can do without changing the rods because you can't get those. He was going around a turn in the yard and his motor started clanking and ----. Turns out the rod cap broke in half which caused a lot of ---- to go wrong including his cam snapping in 3 places and the oilpan getting reamed out where the cam sits in it. Junky briggs.

I find all kinds of free ---- around here on craigslist or the valley trader, sometimes whole free mowers people give away because the magneto is burn up or the deck is bent.
