An electric motor will make as much torque as the current you can put in it, to a point. Or until it overheats. So the limiting factor is usually the batteries and controllers. Adding batteries is easy. You can push the controllers if you can keep them cooler, you just have to know how to program them if thats possible.

I'd seriously consider an electric car at this point... If they where in the same price range as 1995 Civic.
Some sort of a back up generator would be nice though.
I would'nt mind plugging in a car every night, guess the cost is only 1-2 cents per mile.

Haha, bitchass, this has been "in the news" for well over a year now. It's pretty damn quick. Especially for only having a 1 or 2 speed transmission. There's companies that already sell electric motors for people wanting to do conversions, saw one that was 250tq from 0rpm all the way past 10k, then it starts to drop off. There are forums of people doing electric conversions too. One group did an electric conversion in an atom.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKBVEDJYnro <- electric cars really suck :1

Right now they aren't affordable. They can be modified, but it also isn't very affordable.

In a decade or two I'm sure they'll be in the "affordable" range. The motors aren't the costly factor right now, it's the batteries. Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries are still pretty damn expensive, but I'm sure the price will keep dropping as they're used in more and more things.

I admit, I prefer the nice loud gas engine, but I'm still looking forward to when electric ---- takes over. USA is looking at passing regulations for minimum sound levels on electric vehicles, because they're too quiet and thus unsafe to pedestrians :P

Ok well it uses a Honda Civc starter motor any ways. And oh yes, it has instant tourq. It left a 2ft patch of rubber on my garage floor.

I see Henry Ford's greatest invention in the background of the second pic.
