Re: electric sports car
thats cool and all, and you save good on gass, but it cost more than id pay for something that i cant make faster
But ya gota give them credit for trying O0 |
Re: electric sports car
There's a guy on hybridz.org that is doing an all electric 240. It's pretty cool.

Re: electric sports car
2009 Roadster base price: $109,000 lol that ---- is gonna burn to the ground in a big flaming electrical fire before it saves you enough in gas to justify that cost :S |
Re: electric sports car
plus the fact that it takes all the fun out of cars, which is modifying them
|
Re: electric sports car
I wonder what kind of a soundsystem you could power with that car,,,, wonder if it could handle 20,000 watts going to some subs????

you drive a honda, and turbocharge it with junkyard parts. do you really think you can afford to modify an electric car? |

Re: electric sports car
An electric motor will make as much torque as the current you can put in it, to a point. Or until it overheats. So the limiting factor is usually the batteries and controllers. Adding batteries is easy. You can push the controllers if you can keep them cooler, you just have to know how to program them if thats possible.

Re: electric sports car
I'd seriously consider an electric car at this point... If they where in the same price range as 1995 Civic.
Some sort of a back up generator would be nice though. I would'nt mind plugging in a car every night, guess the cost is only 1-2 cents per mile. |

Haha, bitchass, this has been "in the news" for well over a year now. It's pretty damn quick. Especially for only having a 1 or 2 speed transmission. There's companies that already sell electric motors for people wanting to do conversions, saw one that was 250tq from 0rpm all the way past 10k, then it starts to drop off. There are forums of people doing electric conversions too. One group did an electric conversion in an atom.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JKBVEDJYnro <- electric cars really suck :1 Right now they aren't affordable. They can be modified, but it also isn't very affordable. In a decade or two I'm sure they'll be in the "affordable" range. The motors aren't the costly factor right now, it's the batteries. Lithium Ion and Lithium Polymer batteries are still pretty damn expensive, but I'm sure the price will keep dropping as they're used in more and more things. I admit, I prefer the nice loud gas engine, but I'm still looking forward to when electric ---- takes over. USA is looking at passing regulations for minimum sound levels on electric vehicles, because they're too quiet and thus unsafe to pedestrians :P |

Here's my Electric Honda.

And oh yes, it has instant tourq. It left a 2ft patch of rubber on my garage floor. |

wow an electric go kart beat two slow cars. amazing!!!! :1
and barely i might at |

they don't show the GT going over the finish line because it probably passed that worthless go kart

The battery runs down before it can even get hot.
have you thought about trying a bigger starter? something made for a small block chevy or anyother bigger motor |

and barely i might at Yeah I know its nothing compared to your car that gets 60+ mpg. We all know there is nothing in the world better than LSx, and there never will be. ESPECIALLY not a nearly 100% efficient engine that hasn't had hardly as much R&D put into it as gas combustion. You're preaching to the choir |

This little stater has plenty of power. Has more tourq then any 5hp go-kart I have ever ridden. This will make the front tires leave the ground on take-off. But tops out at about 12-15mph, a 2 speed tranny would be tits... or 24v. |

Around these parts hurre our power is nuke generated, TVA has a few hydro plants, and of course the coal burning ones. One near rome georgia has acres full of trailers of wood around it that it burns :) Even if it isn't efficient, there are more options for making electricity than there are for powering a fossil fuel based car. And, you can get more mileage for the cost of the power. Here it's $0.07/kWh. If you want I can post some links for you. I've "wised up." Gas has it's benefits, like easier to make power at a cheaper initial cost, and more upgrades you can do. However electricity is more efficient (looking at a cost standpoint), all torque almost all the time, quiet, etc Bottom line is gas won't be around forever, so eventually you're going to have to drive something else. |

But eventually gas won't be a great option. Personally, if batteries weren't so expensive and electric motors were a little cheaper, I'd build myself an "electric gokart" for my home/work/store commutes since I'm only 5-15 min from wherever I need to go, and it'd cost less in electricity and still be a lot quicker than my slowass CRX. But for now I'll continue burning dinosaurs |

I really doubt synthetic gas will be cheaper than what I can get electricity, since it's coal being processed to a fuel to get burned...instead of just coal gettin burned (or nuclear radiation in my case) and making power. Being that our utility company is also not-for-profit, I really really doubt it'll be cheaper. They did say there's enough coal to fuel our energy needs for centuries, but that's also at "current levels" which will sure as hell be higher in a decade or two. Wonder how much it costs to make synthetic gas. Probably more expensive now or companies would be making it to compete with gas prices. |
Re: electric sports car
what are you talking about nuclear radiation getting burned?
a nuclear reactor heats up water turning it into steam to turn turbines to generate electricity |
