Ebay turbo's
Hi folks,
Can someone tell me if there is much difference in quality between a turbo bought on Ebay or an expensive turbo of a well known brand? Does the expensive turbo last longer or.....??????? Help me out! Thanks! |

are you talking about a reman vs New turbo of the same brand or a no name brand turbo like ZY or SSAUTONIG(eGay) vs a brand name turbo like Garrett/AiResearch?

Yes, I mean the no names "new in the box turbo's" on Ebay.

for me personally id rock a used rebuilt Garrett over some no name new eGay knockoff turbo... Some guys have used them with no problems but a few guys have had big problems with them. For critical components, i stick to known good parts and not knockoffs

Welcome to HMT.
The basic statement of "You get what you pay for..." is pretty solid. There are some know bad sellers on eBay. SSAutoChrome" is one of them, and probably the biggest offender in the turbo world. Everything they sell is crap. Get to know the AutoChrome products, becuase different sellers are also selling the AutoChrome products, but don't tell you that up front. There are several variations on the AutoChrome product line, "XSsomething" is a common alternative. If there is not a well known brand name clearly visible in the auction pictures, stay away from it. If there is a clearly visible, well-know brand name in the pictures, it might be worth it. Of course simple eBay rules then apply...check feedback (read the feedback, don't just look at the number, see if they have been selling turbos for a while, etc.) , verify shipping, is insurance available, is there a penalty for return, is there a warranty, etc, etc. If these criteria are met, then you might be getting a good deal, but you are still taking a chance, it is eBay after all. Down2TUrbo sells on ebay and they are a GOOD dealer and dont rip people off.
