Door Sag?

I finally got my beater hatch (89 HB) on the road yesterday...

Something that's really pissing me off is the driver's side door leaks at the top. I thought I had it fixed but it seems like the door hinge is fucked up and it doesn't seal correctly. I can grab the end of the door and move it up and down a few inches... I looked at the hinge pin and it seems like the holes it goes through are too big for the pin (hence the play). Anyone else have this problem?

That is a semi-common problem for cars with a few years on em. It is normal. If the hinge looks worn, then that may be the way to go. I am nost sure if you can swap hinges on that car, or if you have to get a new door or what.

I got door sag on my 1993 civic 4 door, its nothing major untill theres like 2 inches of play, just go to the wreckers and find the same car without door sag and get the hinges off that, make sure you get a friend to help you put the new hinges on because its a pain in the ass to allign doors by yourself.

I was kind of thinking about maybe getting bigger pins or maybe having something welded to the lower part of the door opening... Like a small wedge that would "pick up" the door when you closed it. I don't know if that would work though (or if it would even be safe :-X), but yeah, I have at least a 2" drop :P

bigger pins would definately work and it's alot smarter to just replace the pins with bigger ones. steel rod from homedepot will do. you'll maybe have to drill out the hinge holes so the rod will fit if you can't find the exact size.

try adjusting them first....

and only adjust one (either top or bottom) at a time...

start with the top one, loosen it up, then have a buddy lift the door up and then tighten that bitch down. should take some of the play out of it...then if that doesn't work do the bottom one

werd i bet you would have been pissed to go out and spend $100 bucks on a new door from a junkyard that isn't even the same color as your car and then realize that you have to adjust that one too huh?

lol
