Door Sag?
I finally got my beater hatch (89 HB) on the road yesterday...
Something that's really pissing me off is the driver's side door leaks at the top. I thought I had it fixed but it seems like the door hinge is fucked up and it doesn't seal correctly. I can grab the end of the door and move it up and down a few inches... I looked at the hinge pin and it seems like the holes it goes through are too big for the pin (hence the play). Anyone else have this problem? |
Re:Door Sag?
That is a semi-common problem for cars with a few years on em. It is normal. If the hinge looks worn, then that may be the way to go. I am nost sure if you can swap hinges on that car, or if you have to get a new door or what.

Re:Door Sag?
I got door sag on my 1993 civic 4 door, its nothing major untill theres like 2 inches of play, just go to the wreckers and find the same car without door sag and get the hinges off that, make sure you get a friend to help you put the new hinges on because its a pain in the ass to allign doors by yourself.

Re:Door Sag?
I was kind of thinking about maybe getting bigger pins or maybe having something welded to the lower part of the door opening... Like a small wedge that would "pick up" the door when you closed it. I don't know if that would work though (or if it would even be safe :-X), but yeah, I have at least a 2" drop :P

Re:Door Sag?
bigger pins would definately work and it's alot smarter to just replace the pins with bigger ones. steel rod from homedepot will do. you'll maybe have to drill out the hinge holes so the rod will fit if you can't find the exact size.

Re:Door Sag?
try adjusting them first....
and only adjust one (either top or bottom) at a time... start with the top one, loosen it up, then have a buddy lift the door up and then tighten that bitch down. should take some of the play out of it...then if that doesn't work do the bottom one |
Re:Door Sag?
I had no idea they were adjustable...
----. Maybe this will be easy ;D |

Re:Door Sag?
How the hell do you adjust the door hinge? ;D
|
Re:Door Sag?
you loosen the 2 bolts that are on the body and then lift the door up and tighten them
|
Re:Door Sag?
just weld that sucker into place. or weld the door shut and get out from the window. or the rear hatch.
|

Re:Door Sag?
Dukes of Hazzard. They drove a Dodge Charger (I think) with the doors welded shut and just jumped in and out through the windows.
Sheeesh. Kids. ::) ;D |

Re:Door Sag?
It was raining... If it stops, I might give it a go tonight. If all else fails, I'll do it this weekend.

Re:Door Sag?
get new hinges from the dealership

Re:Door Sag?
Well, I tried to fix this on Saturday. What a ------- misery. There is no way to get to the hinge-to-body bolts without taking some fender bolts out and I really wasn't up for it. I did try the other door-to-hinge bolts and it might've helped a little. I don't know. I noticed that the rubber trim was a little goofy on the door (again) and tucked it back in the door, but I can still hear a little bit of a whistle when I drive. Maybe I'll try to snag some hinges from a junkyard or something? Thanks for the advice all. :P
