Destruction now with pictures

My engine grenaded today while I was on the highway doing a 4th gear ripper.
I guess it didnt help that I was running 15psi on the stock map sensor either.

I'm just disappointed that I dont have a mode of transportation now.
I'll post carnage pics when I get the engine out.

I'm pretty sure the rod went through the back of the block.

the good news is that a d16 engine from a junk yard is only $200-$300. Where do you live. I can probably find you one.

Re: Destruction

I have a '96 d16y7 107,XXX miles w/ y8 Intake mani, throttle body, and exhaust mani(run perfect w/ a P06 obd1 ecu). I'd include copy of paperwork to prove it's not stolen. $400 shipped. PM me if you're interested. You might be able to pick one up cheaper at a yard, but if you have no luck then this is avaible.

I was just at the junk yard in commerce shitty and they had a Y8 that was in good shape. This place always has like 10-15 civics and they get new ones very often i would check it out. We bought a head from there for 50 bucks once.

Re: Destruction now with pictures

your ringlands look intact, how long were you running 15psi? Ultra conservative tune or?

myshtern 03-17-2006 07:54 PM

Re: Destruction now with pictures

Well I inspected the ring landings very closely today and I noticed a tiny crack on the piston with the straight rod. Then I looked at piston with the bent rod and noticed a crack in the same place. The piston with the broken rod had no such crack. So then I went to look at the 4th piston and it had a crack in the exact same place. I poked at the crack and the ring landing just came out.

Defintely looks like a structural weak point in the honda pistons.

Hey asshat, ---- you ;D

I meant that its strange how they all cracked in the exact same place.

88dx 03-17-2006 09:33 PM

Re: Destruction now with pictures

They always crack on the intake side of the piston. If your good you can break off a full 180 8)

Re: Destruction now with pictures

wtf were you doing running 15 psi on stock z6 internals, beside i though a obd1 map only went to 14 and even at that it would boost cut and sound like ass, whata dumbass maybe if you ran lik 8-10 like normal people would with brains youd still be mob'n your car.

that what im saying. must have been the bbka map ;), although lack of adding more fuel because of pure laziness caused me to blow my ringlands ;D
