Decisions decisions....

Well on my work today my car started acting funny then just bogging out like it wasn't getting fuel then just died out and wouldn't start. Would crank and everything but no luck. Lucky enough my mom and stepdad were behind like a mile or two and noticed me. So I left the Z on the side of the highway and they gave me a ride to work. My stepdad is really cool and I've known him my whole life and is into older domestics cars and ---- so he happens to have a car hauler so he picked up my car later on and dropped it back at my house. So I call my wife to come pick me up tonight and she was telling me that someone left a note on the car if I wanted to sell it or trade it for a running car and cash. He didn't what kind of car but left a phone number and said he was really interested in the car. I never really thought of selling it but money is kinda tight right now with my wife going full time to college even during the summer cause she's nerdy like that and only works like 12 hours a week at her internship through the city at a accountant assistant. So with having 3 cars of my own and having to deal with gas and insurance and registration on all of them including my wifes car. It gets pretty costly. So I'm thinking about selling the Z. I'm gonna call him tomorrow and see what he has to offer and tell him if I did sell it I would keep the seat and wheels since more likely I doubt he can fit in the seat and I can use the wheels on the corolla and become a wheel -----. I only paid 1200 for the car last year and it needs some work. He said he's buy it running or not so he's REALLY interested in it. ??? ???

See how much he'd sell it for/what he'd trade it for then make your decision. That's a beautiful car though; I don't think I'd be able to part with it.

I've been where you are, having 3 cars registered/insured at the same time. It's an unneccessary expense at that point, althought it is fun. Call him and see what he has to offer.

Even if you wouldn't dream of getting rid of it, I would check it out. Everything in this world has a price.

Re: Decisions decisions....

seriously, try to get a couple grand more than you put into it :y Sell it with the tims, add the cost of the rims and tires +200.

I'd say only consider selling the car if you get a minimum of 1500 for it minus whatever and a mimimum of 2500 for it as is, although I'd shoot for 3-4k maybe 3.5k.

May sound like a lot of money, but if the man is serious, he knows what it is and will pay a premium. I do this ---- all the time, not with cars though. Call him up, ask him his offer report back without giving him a definite answer, unless it's a horrible lowball. Post up his offer, and we could see what kind of person he is (money wise).

Sorry for the long post, but the car is a beauty and it would suck to sell it, but if you do sell it, you might as well get the better end of the bargain.

The hachi is sex, so therefor you should sell the Z and put more money into that.

Re: Decisions decisions....

I would say sell it. thats a bad ass car, but I think that hatchie will become one sexy beast very shortly. not to mention you can come across another Z, and with the F&F movie, you probably could make a nice dime or 2 on the hatchie within a few months and get another Z. then your really out on top.

Re: Decisions decisions....

It's still honda rice around here so as for the 86 if I were to ever sell it someone would have to make a drive from like Milwaukee cause there's only 1 other hachi thats very slightly done up and that's it. I like like the Z but it's just getting too expensive with 2 older project cars and unlike honda's parts, I have to find stuff online and nothing locally since noone has the ---- on hand. If he can give me 2000 for the car minus the rims and seat I'd take it. I'll give him a call in awhile and see what he has to offer and check back in to let you guys know.

Re: Decisions decisions....

Hahahahah I hear yah on that but she's extremely supportive with all my cars. Hell I was surprised when she told I could get that corolla. She hates the 280Z cause of that buddy club seat and never drives it all at so it's no big loss to her. lol. But as long as I'm happy she's happy. But I just called the guy up and talked to him for awhile and told him I'd keep the seat since he's 6' and no chance in hell he'd fit into it and he said it was fine and he was just looking for just the body and he said he really liked the wheels but it wouldn't be a problem if I kept them. So I told him 1700 and he could have it cause the body isn't too bad but needs alot of work. Needs a new drivers floor board, turn signals don't work and some other stuff. Something just started with the brakes and I think the booster went out.
UPDATE!
He just called back and said that 1700 would be cool without the seat and wheels. Wednesday when he goes back to work he can get the money and it'll be gone and I can get my TIG I was suppose buy but instead spent all the money on the corolla :P. Then just the Volvo running since thats my winter driver and summer is only so long in WI. :-\ I told him everything about it and he said it's fine. He's just looking for a Z as a project car. Saaaweeet. Now I should be able to do the hotrex "check out my welds..." post with my new TIG once I get it. Oh and some more goodies for the corolla. 8) Like 2" bolt on wheel spacers so I can mount my flares and some side skirts and a header and finish my exhaust. Wife ask me for 300 so I may list the Buddy Club seat up for sale again but I like that thing so much but now I have my Bride seat in the corolla and ummm it wouldn't really look that great in the Volvo. lol.

your definately a car guy. you selling a car you like but that cost money to maintain to just buy more car parts and a tig to make car parts. I hope we dont see a "should i sell the corrolla thread" . you will get a hmt smack down on your candy ass

i looked into maybe buying a Z for sale down the street from me.. asking for i think 3k. stock everything but clean as hell. repainted stock color and rebuilt engine w/ 80k on it. im sure your's has got to be worth that if not more.

Re: Decisions decisions....

The pictures are decieving. Alot of holes from molding that I took off that haven't been filled and it's sat out in the rain at my house so there's water in the panels that I'm sure of that's just chilling there and needs new floor boards, I can't jack the car up in barely anyplaces otherwise it just crumbles. Needs all new weather stripping and leaks pretty good in the back when it rains and collects in the spare tire spot. Not to mention the car isn't running right and he knew that since he said he'd buy it running or not. Only one seat and thats the passenger side that is kinda melted since it caught on fire from the guy who welded in my cage cause I didn't and don't trust my HF fluxcore for that. It's like the Mona Lisa... Looks good from a distant but once you get up close it's not all that great. The passenger side front fender is like almost all bonda and I found alot more bondo when I was installing my flares a month or two ago. The seat and the wheels and tires are the only things I care about on that car and hell what I paid for those alone is what I bought the car for. :P

Re: Decisions decisions....

Sounds like a good deal then ;D

the corolla going to be your money pit then? :P

stillnoturbo 07-01-2006 07:16 PM

Re: Decisions decisions....

Pretty much. I think I'm gonna start buying more tools like a nice band saw cause don't get me wrong a chopsaw is nice but damn it's like welding without gas and then with. Just sooo much cleaner and a nice drill press. The corolla isn't that big of a money pit cause alot of the money is suspension ---- since the engine that bad but definitely not something I want to sink money into at all. It's just gonna get a header and new clutch and flywheel and a LSD and call it a day. Gotta check out Web cams and see if they do regrinds on 4age cams cause these things aren't cheap and it's just like the big jdm names that make them too so right there the price is out of the roof. I just have to get the Volvo running and thats gonna need a new snail since it's spitting out oil and leaking like a faucet.
As for the welder since I"ll have some money I'll get a Smiley/Mitec arc/tig/plasma unit
that I'm watching on ebayl. Since parts are soo much I"ll just start making my own ----. I have a rear triangular strut bar I made for the hatch already but just waiting for the paint to dry. It's pretty nice if I have to say for myself. I'll post pics once I'm done. Screw almost 300 for a damn cusco version of it and make my own 4 link and panhard along with alot of other susp. bits that are wayyyyyy overpriced.

Swap in a 20v and boost it. Yum.

stillnoturbo 07-01-2006 07:55 PM

Re: Decisions decisions....

I thought about a 20V since when I bought my jdm D15b vtec from SOKO in chicago they had about 6 silvertops there too. I may call them up on monday if their open and get a price. It shouldn't be too bad since they only sell longblocks and nothing else so I'd have to buy piece by piece and their really cheap on their engines and you can pick out the engine yourself. Pretty much a long term project that wouldn't crankover till the stealth shuttle could move under it's own power. :P If their under 500 I'll pick one up for sure and just sell my seat to cover some of the cost.

you shoulda sold the rims with the car... you paid what 800 for the wheels and tires? Coulda sold them with the car for 2700 :D

I may toss the rewinds on the corolla evryonce and awhile and be a wheel ----- and roll on different wheels like every other week. Really though, it's gonna be mostly spent on
TIG-500
TIG Supplies-200
Clutch and flywheel for corolla
pricing out 20V's
any cali people ever heard of this place?

Pretty tempting for 675 shipped on their site. :4

Re: Decisions decisions....

I think my 1400(giving my wife 300 to cover some bills) will just go to a TIG, tank, regulator(mount up! 8)) rods... and a 20V. I won't need to buy a header cause with the TIG I can just mod the stocker tubular header that comes on the 20v's and just make a lower half of the header. 8) Once again I have the money spents before I even get it! lol. ;D

20v is teh sex. You care about A/C or P/S? If not, they're easy as hell to drop right in. Gotta love 20 valves and ITB from the factory ;)

Re: Decisions decisions....

I was reading up on Club4ag about how to keep the p/s and ac and I have to use the 16v crank pulley and have it machined 3mm on the back in order to be able to keep all the accessories.
