Default Deciding on Which honda to get...

hi

im new to these forums, and have been going from site to site to help my freind out on his 2000 Toyota Corolla 2.0D. He wants to add some NA things to his enging, no forced induction.

Me and him dont know much about modding up a car, except for visuals upgrades.

So i was wondering if anyone knows any sites or info on modding up a diesel corolla? OR if any turbos are available and which type.

please help.

you said ..NO forced induction, but then you say upgrading with a turbo....so you're contradicting yoruslef.
The best mod for a diesel is turbo, or propane injection.
But I think none of us here know anything about the diesel fuel management. Diesel suck!!!! except for big trucks and such.

Check to see if any of those cars came with a factory turbo, I know toyota put factory turbos on such diesel motors as the 2L, found in Hilux's. I've heard of 2.2 litre and 2.4 litre diesels all over, should be pretty easy to get the swap over (assuming the parts lign up). Might even want to do a complete motor swap to a turbo diesel, research more of the motors and find out, otherwise you will have to be upgrading the computer and altering injector timing (pain in the ***).

A somewhat common "upgrade" for diesel trucks here in the states would be an exhaust upgrade. Granted most of my experience is with Cummins motors (and volvos), a complete exhaust upgrade should give your car more torque to spend. Try and use a free flowing air filter as well to help the beast breathe.

Aside from the obvious intake and exhaust upgrades which are recommended on any motor, not much you can do to squeeze more HP out of your existing setup. Diesels are made for reliability, economy, and torque output. Consider the options, think as far as going into a gasoline swap (engine, lines, fuel tank) instead of keeping the diesel.

Hmm

I guess we should stick to our plan B. The best thing would be to sell the diesel and get a Honda or something of the sort and work on that.

Over here Honda Turbo kits and parts are easily available, i even saw a NOS kit which really surprised me.

BTW, im living in Pakistan.

ME, im thinking on getting a lancer, doing and Evo engine swap and giving it forced induction. but thats going to be in the summer cuz i got to do alot of research on the availability of the parts for the car as well as engine. Still not sure if i should go with the Lancer or a Civic

anyways thanks for the help.

why surprised on the nOS kit??
Most nos Kit's are universal...you can slap them on any gasoline engined car

Wow, you live in Pakistan, that must suck. Never been there, but it just seems like a fucked up place to live (no offense).

Yeah, too much work on the corolla, I would dump it. Diesels are great if you're driving a truck, or even a mercedes but not for a little toyota (those diesel engines are reliable but very poor performers).

Most of the lancers are dumpy cars, it's the AWD Lancer Evolution (which is up to generation 8 - I think) are nice cars, I love the look of all of them. I know the most recent lancer has the 4g63 2.0 Turbo, the prior generation Evo's probably have that motor as well (I'm more of an eclipse person). Either way, if you are getting a non-turbo car and want to put a custom turbo on it, the easiest route would be honda. The mitsubishis won't be extremely difficult, but there is so much more support for Honda cars. It would be cool if you can find yourself a Type R civic or something nice to toy with. There are plenty of smaller mitsubishi cars that come factory with turbos that you might want to consider if not getting a honda.

Good luck on your project, let us know if you need any more help.

The reason i was surprised with the NOS kit was because where i live.

I guess im going to forget the Lancer idea, cuz the Evo isnt available down here.

I dont think there are any Type-R civics over here, unless i smuggle it...

Well honda has A ---- LOAD of stuff that i can work on. i went to the shop the other day and the guy had stage 1,2 and 3 turbo kits for honda.

Ill most likely look for a Honda hatchback, Engine swap (not sure with which engine, b16?) cuz i can get the engines easily.

Ill defenitly be needing more help from u guys . So far im still deciding.

If u have any suggestions on which HONDA car to buy, preferably in the 95-98 area and below US$ 10k.

Im looking to spend about $ 1000-1500 on upgrades for the engine, NA, Forced induction, ECU chip.

Also another thing, does the ECU chip come with an instrucion manual for installing it?
