The CRX gets a new heart. Pics and babble inside.

Well I finally swapped the A6 with the blown head gasket out. Hotrex (Josh) found a complete B18A swap for $300 bucks locally and actually bought it for me. I paid him later for it. What a nice guy! I pulled the A6 out a few days ago. I prepped the B18 with a new timing belt, water pump, plugs, wrinkle painted the valve cover(yeah thats my ricer vice) and 2 brand new axles because I got them for free. I kept the clutch that came in it because I was unsure of the condition of the tranny and so was the guy I bought it from so I didnt want to get stuck with a big shaft clutch if I could only find a 90-91 tranny. The engine was from an auto so it had EGR ---- on it so I swapped the intake manifold with a 92 LS I had.

I got aluminum mounts, shift linkage, rear tranny bracket and a teg throttle cable was ready to go. My neighbor Wes (with the turbo 2.5RS) gave me a hand stuffing the motor and tranny in. It went fairly smooth. I installed a cheap, $70 shipped, eghey header because I can't find a stock manifold around here. I just made a flanged connector to my 3" Kteller exhaust.

It had a few minor issues. Oring on the fuel rail leaked. Easy fix. Then I had a coolant leak at the throttle body. It turns out the metal nipple coming from the TB had a pin hole. I just bypassed it. I have extra TB's but need a new gasket. It fired right up. The idle was insanely high. I found the fast idle diaphram to blame. I must have the vaccuum hose wrong so I just rerouted them and bypassed that gay valve.

The car is retarded loud with the 3" exhaust. I thought it would be a little more tolerable because I used a piece of 2.5" to connect the header to the 3". I was wrong. Its almost unbearable. There is virtually no low end.

All in all it seems to run well. I have to build a manifold and DP soon or I will have to buy some mad tite JDM ebay exhaust for now. The car is slow as balls compared to the A6 on 10psi even with the blown head gasket. On to the pics.

Check out my sweet air intake. Can you believe that took only 2 minutes to make? :P

Here is the bitch idle valve in question. I am thinking or removing it all together.

Thanks to all the guys that helped out in the Hybrid section. Its running on the stock A6 harness with a chipped OBD0 PR4 I had laying around. No codes at all. When the OBDI distro get here I will install my chipped P75 and my OBDI conversion crap back in.

Well I have a bit of 3" SS left and some bends. I have everything to make a miniram manifold and I ordered a 3" flex section today. If I dont get too lazy I will make the manifold this week some time.

Nice, but for some reason I feel you're going to get the LS/VTEC itch and Josh will throw a B16 head at you. :y

I may boost it first. I ahve everything already made except the mani and DP so that would be easiest. I'm going conservative anyway. maybe 9 lbs max. I'm hoping to last the whole season on this old ass motor. I may build something over the winter if we don't sell or house soon.

If you take off or don't have the idle valve connected you'll only have one idle speed, but if you can deal with that, remove it. Looks good.

Damn that looks a lot like my engine bay. I just swapped outmy b16 for the b18 a few dyas ago... Except mine is a $150 B18B that I painted the VC camo green. Using teh 94 teg injectors, and a 91 ls IM. I now have the aem cai back on. It has hella low end with the stock header and about 3 ft after the cat on. I'm gonna get around to welding the whole stock exhaust back together and putting it on here soon. It's ------ loud. My b16 open header wasnt even this loud....

Camo green valve covers are hot. I don't know how people manage to crush air filters like that...it must me a talent.

Looks good to Dave, nice friend you got to pick up a motor for ya

Did you get all the rust on the crx worked out?

Not really. I cut out what I could. The car still needs rockers and the windsheild posts are rotted. I have to remove the windsheild soon.

---- that sucks...Make sure you remove that windshield with some guitar string completely b/f you try to pull it out or it will crack-up real fast. I've actually never seen rot on a crx around the windshield...crazy. I know my 30 yr old Malibu had its share of around the windows rot but a honda...damn,that sucks. The NE kills cars like no other.

Toss a cat or resonator on it to shut it up some. Look nice. Your able to find LS's almost as cheap as D's now. It's just the odds and ends that ring up the bill.

Lookin' sweet man :y Yeah, just toss that idle valve...you don't need it. The vacuum line for it actually attaches into the air intake tube, and since you don't have all that stock ish, just take the bitch off. Once your idle's set anyway you probably won't even need it. I took mine off (cause my strut tower bar wouldn't fit it with it there) and it's fine at idle. You gotta boost it though...9 pounds ain't really ---- on it depending on the turbo. I have mine at 12 on a crappy vafc and completely retarded timing and i'm turnin' out corvettes like crazy O0

are you talking about that valve that has the flat top with the nipple on the left (the one beside the butterfly rotor on the TB?) cuz if u are,. thats not an idle valve. its the dashpot diaghram. its only purpose in life is to slow the the tb plate when you let off the gas fast.

Re: The CRX gets a new heart. Pics and babble inside.

Oh. I'm guessing since the 94 up B series throttle bodies don't have them, they aren't really neccesary?

Re: The CRX gets a new heart. Pics and babble inside.

if they aren't connected to a vaccum source, will it cause problems or anything? I have mine open onthe nipple and you can feel it sucking a little bit.

Re: The CRX gets a new heart. Pics and babble inside.

I drove mine around all day without it plugged in and it fine. I think since I replaced the vaccuum hoses and didn't put the check valve back in, that was the issue.

awesome boost that ---- man what was the setup your thinking? what tranny r u using?

Re: The CRX gets a new heart. Pics and babble inside.

Im going to use the same parts I did in my initial build. https://www.homemadeturbo.com/turbo_projects/csaddict/

I am even going to build the same mini ram type of manifold. I toyed around with building something elaborate but in the end, it fits, it works, and is easy to make. I have the 3" DP supplies on order and they should be here by early next week. I may make the manifold this weekend if I have time. I'm gonna need to buy a clutch too now that I know the tranny is good. Its just a cable LS tranny.
